On June 13, the national Committee for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control held an online conference to partially sum up its operation in the first half of this year. Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Prime Minister cum chairman of the national committee attended the conference. The provincial People’s Committee vice chairman Vo Van Minh, leaders of departments and agencies represented Binh Duong to take part in the conference.
Reportedly, the whole of the country exists 300 public prostitution locations with about 25, 684 prostitutes. Till the mid-May, 2014, there were 32,417 people joining in rehabilitation at centers. To minimize drug and prostitution, the country spurs dissemination and education for more than 14,719 people, additionally builds 3,360 communes and wards without drug and prostitution.
Binh Duong alone, as of May 15, 2014 the entire province had 7,722 HIV-infected people, 500 prostitutes, 1,871 drug abusers and drug crimes. With the increase on drug abusers and prostitutes, the provincial People’s Committee constantly implements the national programs for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control, strengthens dissemination for laborers and people.
Accordingly, trade union at all levels held 86 disseminations for 19,248 workers while local medical sector offered more than 9,000 leaflets, 720 magazines, posters and documents relating to fighting against AIDS, drugs and prostitution for people as well as offered free consultancies on HIV/AIDS control for the community and so on.
