Along with the development of the economy, environmental pollution is getting more and more complicated, in which air pollution is a major challenge for the community, especially in urban areas. In the face of the above situation, localities in the province have taken measures to control over air pollution in association with sustainable development requirements.
Practical models
For urban areas, the large amount of daily waste puts pressure on collection and treatment. The compliance with laws on environmental protection of some establishments and businesses is still low, chasing economic profits, not paying attention to operating waste treatment systems..., which is one of the reasons affecting the air environment.

Over the past years, some localities have implemented programs to classify household waste at source to reuse raw materials and minimize the amount of waste. In late 2017, Tan Uyen city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment implemented a pilot project to classify household waste at source in Uyen Hung ward. In Di An city, since 2018, the model of waste classification at source has been implemented at the administrative center, Biconsi residential area in Tan Binh ward, Railway Road 1 housing area in Di An ward. In Ben Cat town, the model was carried out in Phu An commune’s 3 hamlets of An Thuan, Phu Thuan, Ben Giang in My Phuoc ward’s quarter 2 and Thoi Hoa ward’s quarter 6.
According to the Divisions of Natural Resources and Environment from localities, through the pilot implementation of the model, awareness and habits of waste classification at source have been raised in the community. Le Thi Huong, a resident on street 2, Railway Road 1 housing area, Di An ward in Di An city said: "Since the local program on waste classification at source was propagandized, family members have formed up the habit of classifying and disposing of trash under the regulations, contributing to ensuring general hygiene, protecting the environment."
For the waste classification program at source to be replicated, in 2023, provincial People's Committee will issue a plan on classifying household solid waste at source for the period of 2023-2025 towards the goal of reaching 100% of communes, wards and towns with classify household solid waste at source under the regulations by 2025. Regarding the local plan on deploying household solid waste classification at source in the period of 2023-2024, Le Van Hong, Vice-Chairman of Ben Cat town’s People's Committee said: "After the pilot implementation of classifying household solid waste at source in Phu An commune, it is expected that by the end of 2024 all communes and wards of the town will implement the model, thereby gradually changing habits and raising the sense of responsibility and obligation of people from all strata in classifying household solid waste, contributing to reducing waste pressure on the environment".
Solutions strengthened
Along with the speed of urban development, there is an increase in means of transport, construction projects..., increasing air pollution. In addition to direct measures to control over the quality of fuel, emissions from traffic, dust and noise from construction projects, promoting the task of protecting and planting trees has significantly contributed to regulating and purifying the air environment.
The system of trees, parks and mini scenes in the local urban areas has been synchronized, bringing a better quality of life to people. Depending on the actual situation, each locality will plant and manage trees under the regulations. Nguyen Van Yem, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Binh ward in Di An city shared: "To contribute to creating urban green areas for the city, Tan Binh ward has planted trees and flowers in public areas, cemetery areas, road corridors, streams..., thereby minimizing air pollution and protecting public health."
The scenery on main roads into the administrative center area of North Tan Uyen district or Tan Thanh and Tan Binh urban areas is getting cleaner and more beautiful, with the number of street trees on increase. Nguyen Thuy Linh, a trader on DH.411 route shared: "Trees are considered as lungs in urban areas. Especially, planting more trees on main roads with a lot of means of transport contributes to reducing air pollution. People living and doing business on the roads also feel the fresh and pleasant environment."
