Rescuers carry out their duties at a collapsed building in Bangkok, Thailand, following the earthquake in Myanmar on March 28

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which struck Myanmar on March 28, also caused significant damage to the country’s critical infrastructure, including underground oil pipelines and the electricity system.

The government has urgently implemented response measures, including accepting oil tankers to alleviate the fuel shortage.

In Thailand, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said that the clean-up of the rubble from the State Audit Office (SAO) building, which collapsed in this March 28 earthquake, could take between 30 to 60 days, while efforts to search for survivors continue under difficult conditions.

He stated that authorities have to date cleared less than 5% of the approximately 15,000 cubic metres of debris from the 40,000-tonne rubble. Rescue teams are unable to access areas believed to have potential survivors due to concrete, steel, and other debris obstructing their progress./.
