Di An City takes good care of workers' lives despite difficulties

In 2021, due to impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, many businesses in Di An city faced many difficulties. However, even though production and business were not favorable, enterprises maintain their salaries, allowances and Tet bonuses for workers.

Most businesses in Di An city carefully carry out the disease prevention control work in the last days of the year.

To rent planes to export goods

Tran Thi An Nhien, Head of General Department of Yazaki EDS Vietnam Company (Di An ward), said that due to impacts of the pandemic, the company had to perform "three-on-site" for about 40% employees for many months, provide on-site accommodation and allowances, had to pay 70% of salaries and allowances to workers who did not participate in the "three-on-site", thus the company ha to spend a large amount of money.

“The pandemic also affected the export of previously contracted orders. Occasionally products were finished but could not be exported by sea. For fear of delay, the company had to spend a lot of money to hire whole flights to transport products to Japan and some countries. Some months, the company compensated nearly a hundred of billion VND for the loss, but workers' lives are always taken care of in all aspects. Although some workers had to quit the work due to the pandemic, but the company gives them Tet bonuses. The average bonus is about 7% of salary and allowance. Workers who worked full-time, their bonus is higher,” said Nhien. Masaki Nakahara, Director of Mitsubishi Vietnam Factory (An Binh ward), said: “Our company still suffers from the same situation as other businesses due to the pandemic.

However, I appreciate and thank leaders of Di An city in particular and Binh Duong province in general for creating favorable conditions for the company to maintain production business during the Covid-19 to keep up with contract schedules. Binh Duong also creates favorable conditions for Japanese experts and workers to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We are committed to giving Tet bonuses to employees. This is an issue that concerns the company.”

Disease prevention and control in many ways

From the beginning of October, when the whole province returned to the "new normal", agencies and branches in Di An City have enhanced information about pandemic prevention and control to each enterprise in the area. Trade unions at all levels cooperated with the local medical sector to conduct inspection at each enterprise, help enterprises to both continue production business and carry out anti-pandemic measures most effectively.

Doan Nam Le Thien, Vice Chairman of Di An City Confederation of Labor, said: “Through inspection, in general, all enterprises in the area have high awareness of disease prevention cntrol and comply with anti-Covid measures as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and the province. The inspection mainly reminded businesses not to be subjective and negligent, depending on the disease situation, to take flexible and effective measures in the Covid-19 prevention control.

For example, Yazaki ADS Vietnam Company maintains Covid-19 prevention control teams at the company to enhance information and dissemination about the pandemic among employees in many ways by using images at the workshop and canteen to raise their awareness of disease prevention when returning to their lodging houses. The dining area has partitions, dining time is planned in order not to gather many workers at the same time. The company increased the number of hand sanitizers installed at workshops, toilets... The company cooperates with a local hospital to treat F0 patients.

Workers, who have not officially signed labor contract, have not yet paid insurance premium of all kinds, if are unfortunately infected, the company still takes care of them. In addition, the company also has automatic body temperature monitors, performs weekly Covid-19 quick tests, makes videos about disease prevention control sent to each worker. “If a worker unfortunately suffers from the Covid-19, the company will not only pay the entire treatment cost, but also pay 70% of salary and allowances during the leave of this worker, thus workers feel secure and have a long-term commitment to the job. We expect that, after Tet, workers, who had returned to their hometown during the recent Covid-19 peak, would return to the factory to work fully as before", Nhien said.

Doan Nam Le Thien said that in general, businesses are cooperating very well with local medical branch in disease prevention control, especially large enterprises with a number of employees from a few hundred to several thousand. Disease prevention control in enterprises receives attention from trade unions as well as the city authorities to protect workers' health as well as sustain production in the area.
