According to Huynh Thi Tuyet Lan, Chairwoman of Di An ward’s Women’s Union, the family of Truong Thi Lan in Binh Minh 2 quarter is in the vanguard of offering help to women through the model of making bamboo incense sticks on contract.
It is known that Truong Thi Tan now
provides materials, machines and other incentives for 60 or 70 women to make bamboo
incense sticks on contract. Upon this model, many women living in Binh Minh 2
quarter of Di An ward have so far secured a stable life with the average income
of VND3mln-VND4mln per capita per month.

Other effective model is the “Saving for Tet” group in Di An ward’s Nhi Dong 1 quarter. Pham Thi Phuong, head of Nhi Dong 1 quarter’s Women’s Union cum head of the “Saving for Tet” group said: “After enjoying this Tet, we have begun to take care of members for the next Tet. Members of the group will contribute their monthly savings to the group’s fund and the fund will be used to provide loans with low interest rate for needy women. Loans will be paid to members at year-end and we will use loan interest to buy Tet gifts to members of the group”.
Through the model of “Saving for Tet” group, many women in Di An ward’s Nhi Dong 1 quarter have enjoyed a well-off Tet. According to Mrs.Phuong, in 2012, the highest contribution to the fund of the group was VND10.5mln and the lowest level was VND1.2mln.

In addition, Di An town’s Women’s Union has developed many models “women helping each other in economic development”, contributing to taking care of the lives of the local women.
Nguyen Hong Gam, Vice-Chairman of Di An town’s Women’s Union said that the local Women’s Union has overtime prioritized loan disbursement for women to develop homebased business. In 2012 alone, more than VND7bln in loan was disbursed for 4,700 turns of women. The local Women’s Union also introduced jobs at companies to women; mobilized organizations and individuals to build 8 houses of compassion to poor women with a total expense of nearly VND300mln, helping them have stable accommodations…
Through achievements done, Di An town’s Women’s Union has affirmed the role of women in unitizing, creating and helping each other in economic development, positively contributing to the local hunger eradication and poverty reduction.
