Defining humanitarian activities for the community is a major task, the Red Cross Society of Dinh Hoa ward in TDM city over the past years made numerous activities taking care of needy people, helping them surmount difficulties and build up a better life.
Humanitarian activities promoted
Over the past years, Dinh Hoa ward’s Red Cross Society effectively implemented a lot of humanitarian movements, namely “Each organization, individual should stick to an humanitarian address”, “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims”, “Voluntary blood donation”…, significantly contributing to assisting the poor to rise up in life.

Nguyen Ngoc Thien Kim, Chairwoman of the ward’s Red Cross Society said that members of the society have always made solidarity, constantly improved the quality of activities; strived to become a bridge between donors and underprivileged cases, contributing to well carrying out policies on social welfare.
With practical activities, the ward’s Red Cross Society obtained comprehensive outcomes in all aspects such as effectively mobilizing resources to help social policy beneficiary families; visiting and presenting gifts to them; providing them with free medical check-ups and medicine…Especially, the society promoted the “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address” movement among cadres and members. The society last year offered help of VND27.6million to patients, lonely elderly people and orphans.
The society’s humanitarian activities over the past years also absorbed the participation of organizations, businesses and donors. Since early this year, the society has mobilized donors to offer help of more than VND100million; given mid-Autumn gifts and scholarships for pupils on the occasion of the new academic year with a total value of nearly VND30million; visited and presented 70 gifts worth approximately VND20million to households with members affected by Agent Orange and those with difficult circumstances…The society has also attached special importance to public healthcare via such significant activities as responding to communication campaigns against epidemic diseases, improving the living environment…
Effective models
Apart from boosting humanitarian activities, Dinh Hoa ward’s Red Cross Society has effectively maintained many models and clubs. The “Charity kitchen” model of the society’s Volunteers’ Club is a typical example for this. On Sunday mornings, the club delivers around 2,000 meals to poor patients and their families at provincial General Hospital. The significant activity has brought efficiency in taking care of poor patients and their families.
With the motto of “One piece of food while hungry equals a big box of food while full”, along with the “Charity kitchen” model, the ward’s Red Cross Society over the past time maintained a variety of new models, comprising of those of growing and using herbal plants at home; breeding piggybanks, “Charity rice jar”…For models helping each other in economic development, the society has set up 11 loan-rotating groups with 132 members and VND365million…
Nguyen Thi Lanh, a poor resident in quarter 2 said that thanks to loans from the society, she was able to open a small store to take care of her children. The society also presented gifts and scholarships to her children, helping them further pursue their learning.
Upholding achievements done, the ward’s Red Cross Society will further improve its activities in both content and form, especially humanitarian ones, thereby contributing to taking care of disadvantaged people’s spiritual and material lives, joining hands to carry out the local policies on social welfare.
