Could you tell about local disable people’s present situation?
According to the Law on People with disabilities, persons with disabilities by definition of this Law are those who have impairment of one or more parts of their body, or functional impairment, which are shown in different forms of disability, and may cause difficulties in work, daily life and learning. The rate of persons with disabilities in the world accounts for about 10% of population whilst Vietnam has about 5.3mil persons with disabilities. In Binh Duong alone, the department in cooperation with health sector has managed, assisted, sponsored and improved functions for over 23,500 disabled people. In recent years, traffic and occupational accidents as well as diseases in the elderly are increasing sharply, contributing to jump the rate of persons with disabilities.
Could you tell more work of caring for persons with disabilities?
By concrete policies, especially the Law on Persons with Disabilities has taken effect since Jan. 1, 2011, people with disabilities have enjoyed attention better. In Binh Duong alone, the functional agencies have issued sponsor policies for the disabled, orphans, poor people, poor and sub-poor households…
Could you please articulate policies for persons with disabilities?
Since 2006, all visually-impaired people have enjoyed a monthly subsidy of VND340,000 per capita per month (without consideration on economic circumstance). At present, the provincial People’s Committee has mulled over to increase the subsidy for persons with heavy disabilities. There are 3,400 persons with disabilities enjoying a monthly social subsidy and assistance on housing, preferential loan and free job introduction.
What tasks will be set out for the disabled in the coming time, sir?
The functional agencies will expand vocational training facilities for people with disabilities, increase subsidy for them and call upon businesses and individuals to excel social welfare policies and so on.
