Diverse activities to take care of employees' lives

Along with efforts to create jobs and increase incomes for workers, province-based enterprises have taken care of employees' lives by many effective models such as opening supermarkets, libraries, building houses for workers... They have also organized sports and entertainment activities on Tet and great holidays...

Supermarkets, libraries opened in enterprises

According to provincial Labor Union, there are hundreds of businesses in industrial parks and compounds opening supermarkets at their headquarters. Most enterprises that open supermarkets have a large number of workers (over 1,000 employees). Essential items, including rice, noodles, fish sauce, seasoning powder together with electronic items like fans, rice cookers...are sold at these supermarkets at original prices and many products are also discounted from 10% - 30%. This is one of efforts to take care of workers’lives from provincial Labor Union and enterprises…

Nguyen Thi Xiu, a worker of Shyang Hung Cheng Co., Ltd. in Thuan An city shared: “…My family has mainly shopped at the company in order to save time and buy  products with subsidized prices. We only go to the market once or twice a week to buy fresh food and vegetables. Prior to that, I went to the market every two days and bought whatever I liked with great cost. The company’s convenience supermarket helps our workers save a lot of money.”

Similarly, Mai Anh Thu, a worker of Sao Viet Joint Stock Company in Dong An Industrial Park said: “Thanks to the company’s supermarket, my family saved more than VND1million every week over the past 2 years. Going to the market every day costs much. With the current limited income, workers like us have to increase their savings.”

A fairly new model of taking care of the spiritual life of employees is to set up libraries in enterprises. Currently, Di An city has implemented this model quite well when there are many businesses linking with the city’s Library to bring books to employees. Typically, in the reading room of Scancom Company, there are always 2,500 books of all kinds to serve workers. After each quarter, the library will be replenished with new book titles. Le Van Thien, a company worker said: “In the past, I rarely read books. The company established a library 5 years ago. We often gather here for reading books and relaxing. Reading books helps me have a deeper way of thinking, away from bad habits."

Building houses for workers

According to provincial Labor Union, the province currently has over 200 enterprises building free houses for workers. With the support of enteprises, workers not only have decent accommodations, save travelling time and fuel costs, but also save money to buy land, build houses, creating a stable life.

Noticeably, ShoWa Gloves Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Thuan An city has build a tenement house with all conveniences for 160 workers. Each room is fully equipped with furniture such as bed, blanket, gas stove, rice cooker, wardrobe, television... This house tenement is also invested with football and volleyball grounds, helping workers improve their health.

Son My Duyen, a worker of ShoWa Gloves Vietnam Co., Ltd. shared: “When I started working, I was allowed to enter the company’s dormitory to live. But I thought it would be more comfortable to live outside, so I didn't go in. During the pandemic period, I lived in the dormitory to ensure my health. When I live here, I don't want to go back to my lodging room anymore because it's so full of amenities. And I can save nearly VND 2 million per month from housing rent, electricity and water bills. Every day I don't need to get up early to go to work and don't worry about traffic safety when moving every day."

The model of building free houses for employees has also been invested and built by Thien Nam Investment and Development Joint Stock Company in Di An city since 2008 with 185 rooms fully equipped with conveniences on 70 square meters per room, supplying accommodations for around 700 workers. In the premises of the tenement house, there are also grounds for football, volleyball, badminton, a kindergarten, a supermarket...When working for the company, employees only spend breakfast. If working overtime, they enjoy dinner from the company. All activities of employees are taken care of by the company, so workers can pocket at least VND 10 million each month. Thanks to saving a lot of money, the company's employees can not only buy land and build houses, but also buy cars. Tran Ngoc Vinh, Chairman of Thien Nam Investment and Development Joint Stock Company’s Trade Union said: “The company always encourages workers to stay in the company's dormitory to ensure safety, save travelling time and guarantee their work. The tenement house is equipped with all conviniences  to serve workers' lives.

According to Nguyen Hoang Bao Tran, Vice-President of provincial Labor Union: "The model of building houses for employees from enterprises is very practical and it needs to be replicated. Over the past time, departments, sectors and local authorities called on enterprises to invest in this model. Many enterprises have supported this policy, but their biggest difficulty is not to arrange the land fund. Therefore, in the coming time, this problem needs to be solved to create conditions for workers to live and work in peace and contentment."
