Diverse charitable activities conducted, Tan Uyen city Red Cross

A compassionate community constructed

Carrying out a series of activities to respond to Humanitarian Month 2023, Tan Uyen city Red Cross has mobilized generous individuals to support people in hardship. In particular, the work of taking care of the lives of households in difficult housing situations, supporting and creating conditions for families to have spacious homes to soon stabilize and gradually rise in life is remarkably concentrated on.

In the newly repaired house, Nguyen Van Do of Vinh Phuoc neighborhood in Thai Hoa ward was happy and expressed his gratitude to the authorities and sponsors for their interest in helping and repairing the spacious house so that he has a stable place to live. “I'm very happy to have my house repaired. This is a great source of encouragement for me to try harder in life," said Nguyen Van Do.

According to Nguyen Thi Phuong, Chairwoman of the Red Cross of Tan Uyen city, the mentioned case is of a lonely household with difficult housing circumstances in the locality. The house was previously built and donated by the provincial Red Cross; however, over a long period of use, it has now deteriorated. With the attention of all levels and sectors and the financial support of the Department of Construction and Kien Xanh Consulting Co. Ltd., the house has been repaired with items such as replacing purlins and all new roofing sheets, plastering the ceiling, tiling the floor, painting the walls with an area of 60m2 and building a new toilet with a total cost of VND 38.5 million.

In May - Humanitarian Month 2023, with the theme "Joining efforts to build a compassionate community", Tan Uyen City Red Cross has called on everyone to join hands in implementing humanitarian programs and activities launched by the Red Cross with meaningful and practical actions, contributing to increasing the effect, spreading to all classes of people, building a compassionate community full of love. Depending on conditions and capabilities, organizations from the city to the grassroots have integrated and organized various activities during the Humanitarian Month such as the "VND 0 Market" program, building new and repairing Red Cross houses, giving gifts to children with serious illnesses, mobilizing voluntary blood donation, free medical examination and treatment, visits and gifts, emergency relief, free meals among others for people in difficult circumstances.

To spread humanitarian values

Not only did it implement a series of activities in Humanitarian Month, Tan Uyen city Red Cross also effectively promoted the "Tet of Kindness" movement, the campaign of "Each organization, each individual is associated with a locality of humane”. Thereby, the association has mobilized resources to organize visits, give New Year wishes, and give nearly 6,000 gifts to the poor, people in difficult circumstances, victims of Agent Orange, blind people, workers, and people with disabilities affected by the COVID-19 epidemic in the area.

To achieve the results, the city Red Cross has, right from the beginning of the year, directed its affiliated grassroots associations to focus on reviewing and grasping the needs of the target audience to proactively advise and act as a bridge to introduce, mobilize organizations and philanthropists to regularly help disadvantaged people. In addition, the city Red Cross also organized a campaign to support the repair and handover of 3 humanitarian projects. The association mobilized and awarded 137 scholarships to students who overcame difficulties and studied well in the area. In particular, the association also receives the attention of the provincial Red Cross Association to support resources to organize humanitarian activities in the city in 2023 with an implementation budget of over VND 524 million.

According to Nguyen Thi Phuong, in order to improve the quality of operations, the Executive Committee of the Red Cross Society from the city to the grassroots has focused on consolidating the organization, improving the quality of operations at the association's grassroots and members and has demonstrated demonstrating the core role of the association in humanitarian activities. Associations at all levels have proactively advised and proposed to party committees and authorities on activity plans in each field, close coordination with relevant sectors and organizations to bring practical results in the activities.

“In the coming time, the association will continue to effectively implement the campaign of "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address" to mobilize many organizations and individuals to participate in humanitarian activities. At the same time, the association maintains regular humanitarian models of unexpected relief, gift giving, scholarships, funeral sponsorship, and sick visits.
