Over the past time, Binh Duong was seen as one of the country’s top localities about industrialization and urbanization speed. The province has also excelled at environmental protection. In the 2011-2015 period, it has surpassed 2020’s targets on environmental protection.
Attaching special importance to environmental protection
The whole province is now home to thousands of firms in operation; its average industrial growth rate between 2011 and 2015 is 15.64%. There is also a rapid growth about the local urbanization process. In 2010, the local urbanization rate was 42.5% and the figure is now 81.86% with total population of nearly 2 million people.

Currently, the province also encounters a large amount of waste causing air pollution from industrial production, construction and daily activities, including 95.2 tons of dust a day, 961.3 tons of SO2 a day, 469.1 tons of CO a day and 8,807 tons of solid waste a day.
All the above figures have made Binh Duong face a great challenge on environmental issues. However, thanks to the integral efforts by the local authorities at all levels, Binh Duong has excellently fulfilled its task on environmental protection in the 2011 and 2015 period.
Nguyen Hong Nguyen, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that Binh Duong was not only a locality with strong development in terms of industrial manufacture, but also excelled at environmental protection over the past time. This result came from the efforts by the local authorities at all levels in preventing and curbing environmental pollution; perfecting State administration apparatus to issues relating to environmental protection…Binh Duong was also well-known as a locality being in the vanguard of installing environmental surveillance systems in industrial compounds, parks and residential areas in order to regularly control over pollution on water source, noise, exhaust fumes…
Common task
Apart from achievements done, Binh Duong has encountered obstacles regarding environmental protection. Particularly, the local people’s awareness and action of environmental protection have not been synchronous yet. The compliance of environmental protection law among locals and enterprises is not high…
To Tran Van Nam, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee, the province will put focus on dealing with environmental pollution issues at pottery kilns, poultry breeding households and in sand exploitation areas or quarries in towns of Thuan An, Di An and districts of Dau Tieng, Bau Bang…The province will also keep a close watch on firms outside industrial parks, small-scale breeding households.
“…Upon each locality’s real situation, flexible measures are needed to ensure economic development in association with environmental protection. Economic development is an important task, but we should not neglect environmental protection. This is because under development orientations till 2020, Binh Duong will become one of centrally-controlled municipalities and under vision towards 2030, the province’s economic structure will gradually change to trade and services. Hence, protecting the environment to develop Binh Duong into a green city is the common cause of the local Party, government and people…”, he said.
