Education – Training sector to actively prepare for the national high school exam

According to the regulations of the national high school exam 2016 of the Ministry of Education - Training (MOET), the exam will take place in early July. To prepare for the exam, provincial Department of Education - Training (DOET) directed schools to organize well teaching, learning activities to ensure the good results of high school graduation and college, university admission in the 2015- 2016 academic year.

12th-grade students learned about the national high school exam at enrollment counseling day

DOET started quite early the preparation for the national high school exam 2016. At the beginning of the first semester, DOET organized seminars on subjects: Literature, Math and English. At the seminars, teachers shared experiences with each other and set up teaching orientations to achieve high results in the exam. As planned, in Mar, DOET will continue to organize seminars on subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, and Geography.

High schools have also kept updating changes, announcements of MOET to promptly adjust the teaching and studying. According to Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung, Head of Secondary – Continuing Education Office under DOET, in early Apr, after the second semester exam, high schools will focus on reviewing for the exam. Through inspection, schools organized well teaching and reviewing for each student groups. The review followed the MOET’s framework, textbooks, high school’s syllabus, mainly of 12th-grade.

In addition to reviewing, teachers increased open questions, questions applying general interdisciplinary knowledge from easy to difficult to assess student’s capability; ensuring correct classification, meeting the requirement of high school graduation and a basis for  college, university admission. In addition to documents, trial test questions compiled by DOET, each high school also compiled additional study materials for students.

With experience in organizing the national high school exam 2015, teaching and learning activities at high schools have been performed more smoothly this year. In addition to formal training programs in the morning, additional training in the afternoon, schools organize review for the exam in groups based on subjects and student’s competence; select experienced teachers to teach students.

Le Nhat Nam, Deputy Director of DOET, said DOET asked schools to organize remedial classes for weak students; teachers to take more care of weak students, encourage good students to help weak students in learning and reviewing. Schools should not create more pressure for these weak students. Good students need to have flexible learning time with increasing self-study and teacher’s instructions. Schools also have to encourage students to organize group-study at school, create the best material conditions for students to learn and lunch at school.

Along with the review, high schools also plan for trial exams in order for students to become familiar with the test format, and for teachers to understand the learning quality of students then to have timely adjustments.
