Turning rubbish dumps into flower gardens
Di An town is implementing a target of eradicating illegal rubbish dumps and turning them into flower gardens. Accordingly, the town’s Division of Natural Resources and Environment (DoNRE) launched the 2nd “green-clean and nice street” campaign with the theme of “Eradicating pollutant points-turning rubbish dumps into flower gardens”. As a result, 17 illegal rubbish dumps in the town have so far turned into flower gardens under the campaign. This was one of the town’s highlights in response to this year’s World Environment Day, June 5.

Di An town regularly opens training courses on waste classification at source
Quach Kim Oanh, Head of the town’s DoNRE said that the unit has advised the town’s People’s Committee on issuing the Plan No.2241/KH-UBND dated September 18, 2019 on organizing activities in response to the “Make the World Cleaner” campaign 2019. Accordingly, the People’s Committees of wards were responsible for cleaning up, upgrading ornamental trees while rechecking illegal rubbish dumps for eradication. This will be also the foundation for the People’s Committees of the province and the town to consider and honor outstanding wards in environmental protection.
The town’s DoNRE and Division of Culture-Information also organized a program making dissemination of information about the significance and goal of the World Environment Day 2019 from May 22 to 31, 2019, contributing to protecting the environment. This also contributed to raising public awareness of the local environmental protection.
In addition, the two units hung more than 300 propaganda ribbons under the theme of “Air pollution and our action”; saved natural resources; used environmentally friendly products; eradicated points on environmental pollution and turned them into flower gardens…
Over 98% of people with waste classification
Based on the results of the program on waste classification at source in the town’s administration center in Di An town’s Nhi Dong 2 quarter, more than 98% of the local people have so far made waste classification.
Following the success, the town’s DoNRE set up plans, programs to call for people from all strata to respond to the program. Along with this, the town’s DoNRE launched a journey on saving dead waste-classifying and collecting milk cartons” at 9 primary schools and kindergartens in Di An ward. These schools collected around 1,083 kg of milk cartons only after three months of implementing the journey. The town’s People’s Committee also honored outstanding schools in the implementation of the journey, namely Vo Thi Sau kindergarten, Di An C primary school and Ly Thuong Kiet primary school.
Moreover, the town’s DoNRE teamed up with relevant units to organize a program exchanging waste for gifts, absorbing the participation of nearly 400 people. As a result, the organizers collected nearly 10 tons of waste; donated more than 2,500 gifts, including cooking oil, instant noodle, washing-up water…to participants.
In the coming time, the town’s DoNRE will regularly work with the town’s Radio Station, sectors, departments and mass organizations to improve propaganda activities on environmental protection for better results.
