From a pilot model
In 2008, Thuan An town’s project on environmental protection was founded with many set action plans. Of these, the model of self-control team on environmental protection belonged to a series of activity chains of environmental protection.
To effectively implement the model of self-control team on environmental protection, Thuan An town Fatherland Front Committee standing board initially selected Binh Dang quarter, Binh Hoa ward as a pilot locality with the participation of as many as 50 households.
According to some Binh Dang quarter cadres, Binh Dang quarter executive board selected a 5-member management board and set out concrete goals to take this model go into real life. In the short time, the model of self-control team on environmental protection in Binh Dang quarter mobilized VND60mil from local people to build sidewalks, VND6.3mil to install 45 garbage cans and encouraged every local household to plant a green tree in front of their house to make a green space for the quarter.
Le Minh Duc, vice chairman of Thuan An town Fatherland Front Committee said that from efficiency of this model, the town Fatherland Front Committee at commune and ward levels and People’s Committees at all levels and organization have mapped out concerted plans to attach this model to the mobilization of “All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas”.
A daily deed
Until now, the model of self-control team on environmental protection has become a daily work for local people. As statistics, Thuan An town now has 72 self-control teams on environmental protection with 5,186 members and 32,680 households participating in these models.
Thanks to hi-unity, local households not only protect environment voluntarily but contribute charges for collecting garbage in their localities.
Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, chairwoman of the town Fatherland Front Committee added that through promulgation and mobilization, local people’s awareness on environmental protection has been improved significantly. In addition, executive boards of self-control teams on environmental protection register to take charge of maintaining exemplary routes and educating local residents to keep environment.
These results are thanks to local authority’s efforts of launching campaigns on environment protection on big anniversaries. Accordingly, Thuan An town administration has initiated 842 campaigns on street hygiene with the participation of 42,441 people as well as held contests for self-control teams on environmental protection with the attendance of 152 contestants. Through these deeds, local people have become positive propagandists of environmental protection for development of a civilized and modern urban area.
