Efforts help all families enjoy Tet

In addition to gifts of the district, the province, communal-level localities in Phu Giao district have organized delegations to visit and offer gifts to policy families, poor and near-poor households, helping them get more conditions to enjoy spring and celebrate Tet. With the determination of letting all families enjoy Tet, departments and sectors in the district have had plans to take care of their members during Tet, not letting any families be deprived on the traditional Tet holiday.

Thoughtfulness and sentimental attachment

Phu Giao district currently has 2,534 policy beneficiaries and revolutionary contributors. Upholding the tradition of "drinking water, remembering its source", every year, this locality well performs the task of paying debt of gratitude, promptly implementing the Party and State’s guidelines and policies in order to take good care of policy beneficiary families, thereby helping raise their living standards.

Nguyen Duy Tu, a wounded soldier in An Linh commune shared: “The local government is always attentive to policy families, especially on Tet and great holidays, there is no shortage of very meaningful gifts. In addition, the locality set up delegations to visit and encourage each family. If policy beneficiary families have difficult circumstances, they will be facilitated to learn vocational skills, borrow money to do business and build gratitude houses. Therefore, in recent years, many households have risen from difficulties to get rich legitimately. Thank to the attention and support of the locality, my family now has a complete life".

In 2022 alone, Phu Giao district built and repaired 32 gratitude houses for revolutionary contributors with a total cost of more than VND 1.65trillion; promptly renewed and issued 3,162 health insurance cards for policy beneficiaries and relatives of revolutionary contributors. The district also confirmed the exemption and reduction of tuition fees for tens of cases that are the offspring of revolutionary contributors; organized tours to Lam Dong, Hanoi, Phu Quoc...for hundreds of revolutionary contributors. Bui Van Su, a war invalid in Vinh Hoa commune shared: “Recently, the local government has coordinated with the district’s Military Command to give my family a savings book of VND10 million. I was very touched. Getting help from sources together with the will to overcome difficulties, everyone will rise eventually. The locality leaves no one, especially policy families behind.”

Bo Thanh Tung, Head of Phu Giao district’s Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said: "Along with taking care of policy families’ life and  helping them rise up, taking care of them on Tet holiday is more and more attentive. On the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit 2023, the district has planned to spend the local State budget on giving gifts for heroic Vietnamese mothers, policy beneficiaries, Party members with the 40 to 49-year Party membership badges, the poor, lonely elderly with extremely difficult circumstaces, workers who cannot return to their hometowns for Tet... It is expected that about 32,000 targeted people will be presented gifts worth over VND 3 billion. Communes and towns in the district have mobilized funds for their own care. The district’s departments, sectors and mass organizations have had activities to take care of their members during Tet together with Tet celebrations such as opening Tet market-days, “zero-dong” market-days, buying goods at basic prices, organizing cultural and sports activities.

Helping poor households rise up

Together with policy beneficiary families, 426 poor households in Phu Giao district are also cared for and facilitated to gradually stabilize and rise out of poverty. These days, the task of focusing on taking care of the poor for Tet holiday is carried out by communes and towns. Nguyen Anh Vu, Chairman of Tam Lap communal People's Committee, shared: “Every holiday and Tet, poor households receive gifts from the locality. The communal People's Committee has directed subordinates to pay close attention to policy beneficiary families and poor households, especially during Tet. Besides common gifts, if a household is more difficult, the commune has its own way of taking care of, not letting lack necessities during Tet. The commune currently has 32 poor households under the province’s new poverty line. Every year, the locality has many support programs for poor households, gradually helping them rise up.

Meanwhile, Vo Van Loi, Chairman of An Binh communal People's Committee said that besides poor households and policy beneficiary families, the locality also has more than 230 ethnic minority households, so taking care of the targeted people on Tet must be thoughful. Depending on the local fund, An Binh commune will have corresponding and meaningful gifts for the targeted people.

In 2022, Phu Giao district implemented a series of solutions, including giving 2,751 health insurance cards…, to help poor households have conditions to rise up. The district’s Bank for Social Policies disbursed more than VND4.2 billion in loan for 88 poor, near-poor, and newly-escaped households to develop production and business models; provided more than VND 58 billion in loan about job creation for 1,135 people. The district also resolved to exempt and reduce school fees for 76 poor-but-excellent children; supported study expenses for 71 children. In addition, the locality built 7 “great unity” houses for poor households, upgraded 2 houses, with a total amount of nearly VND 700 million; supported electricity bills for disadvantaged households with an amount of more than VND 260 million. The district also opened 37 training courses on cultivation techniques, pest care on crops and livestock for farmers in communes and towns in the district with the participation of 1,950 turns of farmers. These classes give priority to workers with difficult circumstances…

In addition to taking good care of the targeted people on Tet, every year, Phu Giao district also organizes many emulation activities on production, cultural lifestyle construction, economic development..., step by step help poor households escape poverty sustainably and have a prosperous life.
