Efforts made to care for and retain employees

Although there are still more than 2 months until the Lunar New Year 2025, many grassroots trade unions have planned to give bonuses and order early Tet gifts for workers. At the same time, many enterprises have plans to retain employees long-term.

Stabilize jobs at the end of the year

Even though there are more than two months left until the Lunar New Year in 2025, many grassroots trade unions are already planning to give bonuses and order Tet gifts for workers in advance. Additionally, several companies are developing strategies to retain employees over the long term.

For workers having difficult circumstances who cannot return hometown for Tet celebration, the Provincial Federation of Labor coordinates with local authorities to take good care of them.

Mr. Bui Minh Ha, Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Poong In Vina Company Limited (Uyen Hung Ward, Tan Uyen City), said: “Our company has secured enough production orders to support approximately 2,500 workers until April 2025. At the end of each year, many businesses, including ours, often find themselves racing to complete overtime work to fulfill orders for Tet. Allowing workers to work overtime does boost their income; however, it is essential to ensure they have sufficient rest hours and access to nutritious meals.

According to Mr. Bui Minh Ha, the workforce is a valuable asset for enterprises, making it essential to care for employees, fully implement policies, and ensure adequate income to retain them. After the Covid-19 pandemic, Poong In Vina Co., Ltd. has faced challenges, including a lack of orders. However, the company continues to prioritize employee benefits by maintaining competitive salaries, bonuses, and holiday gifts, especially during Tet.

To ensure production, the company is looking to recruit an additional 1,000 workers and is continuously posting job vacancies. However, finding suitable candidates has proven to be difficult. In response, the company has implemented an incentive policy that rewards employees who refer candidates with 1 million VND for each successful recruitment. Additionally, newly hired workers will receive 2 million VND from the company during their first month, in addition to their basic salary and other allowances.

At Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Company Limited, located in Phu Chanh Industrial Park, Phu Chanh Ward, Tan Uyen City, the working atmosphere is urgent and bustling as the year comes to a close. The factories are illuminated day and night to fulfill orders for Tet.

Ms. Tran Ngoc Tran (born in Bac Lieu) works in the inspection department and is very happy when talking about her job and income. Ms. Tran mentioned that she had started her career as an apprentice. After five months of working at the company, she has achieved an average monthly income of nearly 11 million VND, including overtime pay. “I used to work at another company nearby where I put in a lot of overtime, but the income was not high. Working here is easier and more comfortable; the overtime is arranged by the employees, and the meals are quite delicious, which helps maintain good health,” said the female worker.

Mr. Bui Minh Ha, grassroots Trade Union President of Poong In Vina Company Limited, said: “Our Trade Union has contacted suppliers to order Tet gifts for employees. The Trade Union is also reviewing the number of union members and workers having difficult circumstances, the number of workers staying in Binh Duong to celebrate Tet, from which there will be plans to visit, give gifts, organize Tet playgrounds, and Tet meals.

Mr. Vu Thong Hiep, grassroots Trade Union President of Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Company Limited, said that employees at Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Company are thrilled to work during the peak season at the end of the year. The company has successfully achieved 100% of its production plan for the year. Besides Tet orders, the company has orders to produce until the end of the first quarter of 2025 for 1,000 workers. “Our company is negotiating and continuing to sign many new orders. In general, during this period, there are a lot of orders coming into the garment industry," said Mr. Hiep.

To take care of workers on Tet holidays

In addition to providing jobs and income, companies are trying to ensure the best possible Lunar New Year 2025 caring policies for their employees. Representatives of Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Company Limited, Poong In Vina Company Limited and many other companies in the area said that in recent days, the company's Board of Directors has met to ensure that all employees receive their salary, 13th-month bonus and Tet gifts. Mr. Bui Minh Ha said: “Our grassroots Trade Union contacted suppliers to order Tet gifts for employees. The Trade Union is also reviewing the number of union members and workers having difficult circumstances, the number of workers staying in Binh Duong to celebrate Tet, from which there will be plans to visit, give gifts, organize Tet playgrounds, and Tet meals.

Meanwhile, Mr. Vu Thong Hiep said that besides taking care of Tet, the company is reviewing allowances for such as accommodation, commuting, and childcare to better care for and retain employees, because in the current period, recruiting workers is very difficult. "The allowances for employees at our company currently average 1.7 million VND/person/month in addition to salary and overtime," said Mr. Vu Thong Hiep.

Employees at Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Company Limited are eager to work during the year-end peak season.

Currently, some businesses have initiated Tet care policies for employees. Mr. Mai Phu Hung, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union at Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd., stated, "Our grassroots Trade Union has proactively reached out to businesses supplying Tet goods to avoid being caught off guard. As for the 13th-month bonus, the amount will vary based on the company's production activities throughout the year. For Lunar New Year 2024, our company plans to provide an average bonus equivalent to nearly two months' salary”.

According to the grassroots Trade Union Vice President of Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd., in addition to support from the higher-level trade union for workers traveling during Tet, the company also organizes transportation for hundreds of employees to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday. For Tet 2024, 300 workers received support. This year, the company's grassroots Trade Union is currently implementing registration for employees, and a list of participants for the company's "Spring Trip" will be available in the coming days.

The Provincial Labor Federation, in collaboration with higher-level unions and grassroots organizations, coordinated efforts to manage salaries, bonuses, and activities for employees during the Lunar New Year 2025. This planning was done early and thoughtfully to ensure that all employees in the province can enjoy a joyful and warm Tet celebration.

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs has issued a document requesting localities report on the situation regarding New Year and Lunar New Year 2025 employee bonuses before December 15.

According to the direction, the Provincial Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of provinces and cities must proactively coordinate with the Management Board of industrial parks, economic zones, export processing zones, the Provincial Labor Federation and relevant agencies to grasp the production situation and workers' lives in enterprises and have solutions to ensure jobs for workers in the area. Local authorities must actively monitor and understand the situation regarding labor relations; strengthen support solutions and promote the development of harmonious, stable, and progressive labor relationships within local enterprises. It is also important to disseminate information and raise awareness about legal compliance among both employees and employers....
