Continual efforts
At the ceremony initiating the program of power saving in 2015 at localities, the program has been propagated. Ben Cat Town is the leading locality of power grid development with year on year growth of 12 to 14% of commercial electricity. This is the third year when Ben Cat Town implemented the power saving program with more and more families registered. Under calculation, in 2014 commercial electricity has reached for 141.12% of the plan allocated by Binh Duong Provincial Power Company.
Three years ago, Thu Dau Mot Power Company tested the power saving program by choosing some model quarters and wards to start. As power saving proved effective, 36,000 families have registered for power saving. In 2014, 1.3 million kWh was saved in the city meeting 140% of the plan. The saved up power was valued at VND 2.26 billion.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huu, Deputy Director of Department of Industry and Trade and Head of Standing Board of Power Saving said that power supply would fail to follow demands in the face of declining resources. Thus, power saving is significant. On the other hand, enterprises should do their researches on innovating equipment to reduce energy loss and increase environment friendliness. Statistically, power use in Vietnam is 1.5 to 1.7 times higher than in Malaysia and Indonesia in one production unit. Thus, as the power is saved, the competitiveness of products would be increased in the market while facilitating production development.
Experts asserted that power saving products should be introduced widely and accessible to the public to eliminate the habits of buying low-cost but power consuming equipment.
Mr. Le Minh Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of Binh Duong Power Company said that from May, the province has saved up 63.7 million kWh or 38.45% of the plan. As for Earth Hour 2015, the province saved up 46,300 kWh (8.9% of national saving).
