Efforts of pollution improvement at Ba Bo canal

Deputies contribute ideas for solving pollution at Ba Bo canal.

Part 2: solutions of cleaning Ba Bo canal strengthened

Right after an inspection to Ba Bo canal, delegates attending a meeting to solving pollution at this canal said that it is necessary to strengthen further effective solutions to clean up Ba Bo canal, minimizing pollution at this canal, contributing to local sustainable development.

More investment in pollution treatment projects

Ho Van Thong, vice director of Binh Duong Water Supply One-member Ltd., said the Ba Bo canal project of building water drainage system and waste water treatment is under take-over procedure before submitting assessment. This project has a total value of over VND600bil and includes two phases. The first phase will build rain water drainage system with a length of 3,100m. Along to this canal, an asphalted road with the width of 6m will be built. The second phase will build waste water treatment system with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day and night, located at an area adjoining Ong Bo Bridge, Binh Hoa commune, Thuan An district. The project will ensure environmental hygiene for the entire Ba Bo canal and neighboring areas.

To minimize wastes at this canal, the provincial People’s Committee asked the local department of Agricultural and Rural Development to work as an investor of T6 canal project located at Di An township and Tan Dong Hiep IP. The main goal of this project is to cater for water drainage of Di An township. Until now, this project has completed an item of the length of 1,483m with the total capital of over VND11bil.

Along to Binh Duong province, the HCMC also launched improvement project of Ba Bo canal. At present, the city has launched over 50% of tender package of this project. The remaining tender packages are in need of adjustment of technical design.

Boosting solutions

Many deputies said that it is essential to mull over feasible and sustainable projects to ward off wastefulness. Deputy Nguyen Minh Giao, head of the provincial Inspection Department asked investors should extend projects at this canal effectively. Deputy Le Van Rum, director of the local department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that rain water drainage system does not impact on environment. The main reason of pollution at this canal lies in industrial wastes. Therefore, it is necessary to mull over long-term projects to solve pollution for the entire area.

Tran Thi Kim Van, vice chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council suggested Thuan An district People’s Committee and Binh Hoa commune should keep promulgating and mobilizing the public to protect environment. Meanwhile, functional agencies need to boost inspections on waste discharge of businesses at Song Than 1 and 2 IPs.

In addition, the provincial department of Environment and Natural Resources should cooperate with the HCMC department of Environment and Natural Resources to hold inspections on waste discharge sources of the city as well as quickly finalize automobile water inspection stations at IPs…
