In recent days, the death rate for Covid-19 patients in Binh Duong has decreased significantly. This is a very optimistic sign, showing the efforts by the local healthcare sector in anti-Covid-19 strategies in each period with efficiency upheld.
Treating critical Covid-19 patients
Statistics over the past 7 days show that the situation of Covid-19 pandemic in the province had many very optimistic signs when the number of new infections, serious patients and deaths decreased sharply. Specifically, the whole province recorded 611 F0 cases hospitalized at treatment facilities, down 2.7% compared to the previous week. The number of cases transferred to the 3rd floor was 38. Dr. Huynh Minh Chin, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Health said: “This is the result of many synchronous solutions in treatment, especially mobile medical stations have made the list of high-risk cases for monitoring and treatment at home. Localities and units have also made efforts in controlling over patients at the 1st and 2nd treatment floors together with devotion by doctors on the 3rd floor in saving critical patients beyond the door of death. According to him, in order to reduce severe F0 cases and deaths, provincial Department of Health has deployed online training under the Telehealth model (a platform to support remote medical examination and treatment consultation) to improve the capacity of mobile medical stations; established a group of doctors for Covid-19 treatment with telehealth consultations for difficult cases; regularly analyzed in terms of expertise and experience in treatment.
Especially, the healthcare sector also has cooperated with Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Military Telecommunications Corporation (Viettel) to deploy a software to monitor and treat F0 cases at home and computerize in monitoring and treating F0 cases at hospitals. Previously, provincial Department of Health also required localities to classify patients, adhere to treatment under the 3-storey tower model and have close linkage between floors to monitor cases. Localities monitoring and taking care of F0 cases at home must ensure strict and scientific standards through the establishment of mobile medical stations and medical teams with a full list of high-risk cases in order to promptly transfer them to a higher level of care if they get severe.
Professor - Doctor of Science - Doctor Duong Quy Si, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Sleep Medicine and Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam Respiratory Association said: “The practical experience of participating in the treatment of severe Covid-19 patients in Binh Duong showed that there were 5 highly effective methods of treating severe and critical Covid-19 patients: nutrition, psychology, patient sleep, rehabilitation and hygiene". Emphasizing the nutritional factor, Professor Duong Quy Si said that the Covid-19 patient treatment area at provincial General Hospital’s intensive care unit has well designed a nutritional regimen for each group of Covid-19 patients under their medical conditions. For critical Covid-19 patients, the hospital has had good cooperation between nutritionists and doctors to achieve high efficiency in treatment.
Making list of high-risk groups for care
The analysis of recent deaths showed that the mortality Covid-19 rate was particularly high among people aged over 50, especially those aged over 65 with underlying health conditions and no vaccination. Therefore, the health sector has urgently taken action to protect people in risk groups, in which two groups of subjects, including people over 65 years old and those with underlying diseases of all ages need to be focused on. Currently, province-based health stations and mobile ones have made the list of high-risk cases for monitoring.
Doctor Lam Dinh Duy, Head of Dong Hoa ward’s Health Station in Di An city said that according to statistics by the Ministry of Health, those who have 20 underlying diseases, including diabetes; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other lung diseases; cancer; chronic kidney disease; organ transplant or hematopoietic stem cell transplant; obesity, overweight; heart-related diseases; cerebrovascular disease; Down syndrome; HIV/AIDS; neurological diseases; sickle cell disease, Thalassemia, other chronic hematological diseases; asthma; hypertension; immune deficiency; liver failure; substance-related disorder); those being treated with corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive drugs; systemic diseases; other diseases in children, will face a high risk of contracting Covid-19. When performing isolation, monitoring and treatment at home or at hospitals for people with Covid-19 in high-risk groups, the local healthcare station has adhered to professional instructions, consultation and coordination of specialized staff corresponding to underlying diseases of patients with Covid-19.
Meanwhile, province-based hospitals have separated people from risk groups for health monitoring and isolation to ensure the lowest risk of Covid-19 when treating common diseases. Provincial General Hospital is implementing measures to early detect people with non-communicable diseases for examination and treatment (high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma…) to promptly control over management. The hospital has arranged staff to guide and advise patients with non-communicable diseases to ensure diet, physical activities, adherence to treatment, and self-care and monitoring at home.
The whole province now has 18 Covid-19 treatment facilities with the number of 4,506 beds. There are 864 patients being treated at province-based medical facilities, accounting for 19.2% of beds. Among them, 254 are being treated on the 1st floor, 697 on the 2nd floor and 213 on the 3rd floor. The number of patients on the 3rd floor is mainly at Phu Chanh treatment area with 600 beds...
