Eight political parties win seats in Indonesian House of Representatives

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has officially announced the name of political parties winning seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2024-2029 term.

The announcement was made at a meeting on the results of the 2024 legislative election in Jakarta on August 25, which was chaired by KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin.

Afifuddin said that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which won some 25.3 million votes, will secure 110 seats in the House, accounting for almost 19% of the total 580 seats. It is followed by the Golkar Party and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) with 102 seats and 86 seats, respectively.

Behind these parties are the National Democratic Party (NasDem), the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the National Mandate Party, and the Democratic Party with 69, 68, 53, 48 and 44 seats, respectively.

Previously, Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani stated that the winning party in the 2024 legislative election will be Chairman of the DPR

for the period.

The DPR consists of 580 members who are elected through a general election every five years. They have jurisdiction over draft laws of the government as well as on budget issues./.
