Nguyen Quoc Bao, vice chairman of the provincial Elderly People’s Society said that in order to offer proper jobs for members, the society at all levels annually holds emulation movements in an attempt to spur propaganda. These emulation movements include “Elderly people help each other escape poverty”, “Elderly people build cultural life in residential areas”, “Elderly people build new rural areas”, “Elderly people plant green trees” and among others.
Meanwhile, An Thanh ward elderly people society in Thuan An town joins positively in production, cultivation and animal husbandry. Until now, the ward has 151 elderly people involving in service business, 6 others in farmstead management and so on.
Since 2012, the ward Elderly People Society in cooperation with the ward Fatherland Front Committee and Poverty Reduction Committee mobilizes to grant hi-unity houses to 5 needy members with the total expense of VND220mil. In addition, the society joins in the movement of talent and learning promotion and mobilizes more than VND50mil to grant to underprivileged talented pupils.
In the meantime, Uyen Hung ward Taichi Club in Tan Uyen town is always the typical unit highly appreciated by local party committee and authorities. With the slogan of “happy, healthy and useful living”, the club’s members take exercises to improve their health. In addition, they assist needy members to escape poverty and more.

As a chairwoman of Phu Loi ward Elderly People’s Society in Thu Dau Mot city, Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong sets positively out good ideas to take care of the elderly. She is one of dynamic members in disseminating and mobilizing donors to support free eye check-up and surgery and more and to grant health insurance cards to needy old people.
Since the start of this year, 9 local elderly people enjoy free eye surgeries with the total cost of over VND42mil while 5 poor old people donate health insurance cards.
Phuong revealed “Studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s moral examples starts from the smallest deeds”. As the chairwoman of the society for many years, Phuong, 70, always completes the set goals. She often reads newspapers to update information, learns about members’ aspirations to timely suggest and solve difficulties.
Following Uncle Ho’s teachings of “For interest of ten year tree planting, Nguyen Ngoc Thoai, 68, chairman of An Thanh ward Talented and Learning Promotion Society positively mobilizes members and people to contribute over VND73mil to the ward Talented and Learning Promotion Fund. Annually, he mobilizes his relatives to contribute VND3-5mil to this fund, helping poor students pursue their study.
In addition, Thoai always sets an example of leading in emulation movements. 3 years ago, gambling was a big problem for the locality, so he built a plan on timely find out gambling cases. Therefore, since 2013, gambling is in this locality eliminated completely, bringing a safe life for local residents.
Through detailed deeds, the elderly across the province has contributed to build a cultural life in residential areas.
