On July 23, the provincial Labor Union holds a get-together to celebrate 85th founding anniversary of Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929-2014) and receive the second class Independence Order. On this occasion, Binh Duong Newspaper’s reporters had an interview with Le Thanh Nhon, chairman of the provincial Labor Union on operational orientation of the Trade Union organization in the coming time.

What is your assessment of trade union’s development during the past 85 years?
Over the last 85 years, Vietnam Trade Union organization has constantly developed under many forms and names such as Red Federation of Trade Unions, Brotherhood Trade Unions, Anti-imperialist Workers Association, Workers Association For National Salvation, Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Vietnam Federation of Trade Unions and Vietnam General Confederation of Labour of today. Under any forms and names, Vietnam Trade Union organization always shows up its unity and contributes to build working class strongly as well as leads in the renewal period.
In Binh Duong alone, along with industrial development, workforce increases in numbers sharply. The entire province now has more than 820,000 laborers, so the trade union organization is developed firmly in numbers of trade unionists and grassroot unions. Until now, the entire province has more than 2,676 grassroot trade unions with over 530,000 trade unionists out of 615,000 laborers in which 1,962 grassroot trade unions at non-state economic sector with nearly 500,000 trade unionists/560,000 laborers.
What is trade union organization’s role in gathering laborers and holding emulation movements?
Operation of trade union organization in the past time was renovated in content and operation, especially in dissemination and education on politics, laws, occupation for laborers.
Many newly-established grassroot trade unions attract a large number of laborers, improving gradually relation between employers and employees and helping develop production. Thenceforth, trade union organization’s role is uphold and wins trust of laborers for trade union organization. More importantly, employers learn more about role, function of trade union organization.
Besides, the patriotic emulation movements are paid much attention by all level trade unions, resulting in attracting participation of numerous laborers. Through the patriotic emulation movements, many typical examples as well as thousands of initiatives have been emerged, bringing benefits for enterprises and the State.
What will all level trade unions do to continue building Vietnamese working class in industrialization and modernization period?
With the motto for legitimate rights, interests of laborers and trade unionists, for sustainable development of country, trade union organization will strive to implement 11 groups of main goals based on 4 action plans such as developing trade unionists for the 2013-2018 period; improving quality and operational efficiency of trade union cadre staff; improving quality of negotiation, signing and effectively implementing collective labor agreement; improving knowledge and occupational skill for trade unionists and laborers, etc.
In order to successfully implement the 11 groups of goals, mission of the provincial trade union at all levels in the coming time is very heavy. Specifically, the union will focus on well implementing key functions and tasks of taking care of laborers’’ legitimate rights and benefits; strengthening dissemination and education on legal knowledge and occupational skill for laborers; mobilizing cadres, laborers to join positively in patriotic emulation movements launched by central and local organizations.
What is your advice for laborers?
On the occasion of the 85th founding anniversary of Vietnam Trade Union, I urge all cadres, laborers and trade unionists to highlight tradition of Vietnamese working class, join in emulation movements of labor, production and study in a bid to excel local political tasks and build Binh Duong into a prosperous and civilized locality.
