Engaging youth in the development of a smart city

In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, and to actualize Plan No. 198-KH/TU dated February 24, 2025, from the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee regarding the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, from the Politburo on advancements in science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation in Binh Duong province, the Provincial Youth Union is diligently preparing to host a conference aimed at recognizing and honoring young party members, distinguished union members, and young entrepreneurs from the private sector, as well as to inaugurate the Young Engineers Association.

Preparing for the launch of the Young Engineers Association

In the context of the robust advancement of the 4.0 industrial revolution, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are emerging as pivotal elements in fostering sustainable development for both localities and nations. This is particularly relevant given the goal of transforming Binh Duong into a smart city, where the integration of modern technology and innovative initiatives will generate new momentum for socio-economic development and enhance the quality of life for residents. In alignment with this vision, and in close collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Science and Technology, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee issue a decision to establish the Steering Committee for the formation of the Binh Duong Provincial Young Engineers Association. As a result, the Provincial People's Committee has issued Decision No. 911/QD-UBND on March 27, 2025, recognizing the Steering Committee for the establishment of the Binh Duong Provincial Young Engineers Association.

The units are actively collaborating to finalize the procedures for the official recognition of the Young Engineers Association in accordance with Decree No. 126/2024/ND-CP, dated November 26, 2024, issued by the Government regarding the organization, operation, and management of the association. It is anticipated that the association will comprise 52 members, all of whom are distinguished young engineers from various fields, united by a common commitment to dedication and innovation.

The Provincial Party Standing Committee convened a meeting to review a report regarding the establishment of the Young Engineers Association and the initiation of the Science and Technology Initiative Competition.

The Young Engineers Association will serve as a platform to unite and enhance the knowledge and skills of young engineers, facilitating research, providing advice, contributing innovative ideas, and proposing creative solutions to foster the province's development.

Furthermore, the association will engage in monitoring content pertinent to youth, youth organizations, associations, and teams; provide guidance to relevant agencies in executing projects and programs focused on socio-economic development, digital transformation, smart cities, environmental protection, telecommunications, and advanced technology, among others.

The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has meticulously prepared for the conference aimed at recognizing and honoring young party members, exemplary union members, and young entrepreneurs from the private sector, as well as launching the Young Engineers Association. In addition to the establishment of the Young Engineers Association and the initiation of the Science and Technology Initiative Contest, the Provincial Youth Union has also recommended that the Provincial People's Committee confer certificates of merit to 11 exemplary projects and models developed by members anticipated to join the Young Engineers Association. Concurrently, it will acknowledge 95 outstanding union members and exemplary young party members from Binh Duong province, and present gifts to distinguished union members and young party members who are entrepreneurs in the private sector during the conference.

The Association serves as a platform for connecting experts and investment resources both within and beyond the province, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the application of science and technology across various domains, including mechanics, software, biomedicine, chemistry, construction, electronics, high-tech agriculture, and urban planning. This initiative supports start-ups, scientific research, and the development of young talent.

More significantly, the Young Engineers Association will serve as a conduit between generations of engineers—from predecessors to the contemporary youth—collaboratively fostering innovative technological solutions and implementing them in practice. Each member of the association will act as a nucleus, disseminating the spirit of innovation within their respective units or enterprises, thereby contributing to the advancement of digital transformation and the development of science and technology in the community.

Launching the Science and Technology Initiative Contest

In conjunction with the establishment of the Young Engineers Association, during the conference aimed at recognizing and honoring young party members, exemplary union members, and young entrepreneurs from the private sector, the Provincial Youth Union will also inaugurate the Provincial Science and Technology Initiative Contest in 2025. This contest will focus on the theme "Smart City for Sustainable Development" - BD-InnoTech (Binh Duong Innovation & Technology Contest).

The competition seeks to identify innovative ideas and models that can be practically implemented to enhance quality of life, increase convenience for individuals, foster digital transformation, and advance green development objectives.

Initiatives will be prioritized in the following domains: smart urban management, healthcare, culture and tourism, smart education, public services, e-government, clean energy, environmental sustainability, urban agriculture, and smart manufacturing. Consequently, the Organizing Committee aims to identify and recognize technological solutions, automation, and artificial intelligence that can significantly contribute to the development of Binh Duong as a smart, modern, and sustainable city.
