With 28 industrial parks (IPs), including 26 IPs put into operation, in recent years, economic growth brought by industrial sector has been very powerful in Binh Duong province. However, because of industrial development, the province has encountered environmental pollution, thus has been searching for optimal solutions to protect the environment for a sustainable development.
One important task is to control industrial pollution. To enforce environmental protection regulations in business’s waste water treatment, regularly monitor the discharge of large waste generators in the province, and protect Dong Nai – Saigon River, Binh Duong province set up and put into use an automatic system monitoring volume flow rate, quality of waste water in 2012, comprising 1 central station and 21 base stations. Currently, Binh Duong is adding more 31 base stations. Thus, the province will have 52 large waste generators that are continuously and automatically controlled with total flow rate 97.000m 3 / day, and be able to monitor 70% total industrial wastewater.

Realizing benefits of environmental protection in industrial production, there were 19 more IPs invested themselves in installing automatic system monitoring quality of waste water. Most provincial IPs have separate systems for rain water and waste water with total pipe length of over 1,200km and total investment of over VND1,900 billion. Accordingly, 100% IPs create their environmental records, waste water treatment systems of 25/26 operating IPs were examined and certified.
In addition to industrial pollution control, the province has focused on improving environmental quality. Every year, Binh Duong issues a list of organizations causing environmental pollution for handling. Up to now, there are 263/269 listed organizations that completed environmental pollution remedies (97.8%). Binh Duong has also displaced or forced 30/33 organizations causing environmental pollution to terminate production activities (91%); implemented 13 projects on environment protection, including 8 completed projects and 5 projects are in progress.
Attaching economic growth objectives to environmental protection, Binh Duong province has performed attracting selective investments, refused projects causing environmental pollution, limiting locating production facilities outside IPs in the south in order to prevent pollution and limit arising environmental hot spots.
As a result, in recent years, water quality of Dong Nai – Saigon River and canal system in urban areas has tended to decrease pollution compared with 2010; air quality has been preserved and met environmental standards; the exploitation and use of lands, minerals and groundwater in accordance with planning has reduced wastes, losses, and environmental pollution; environmental funds is increasing; conservation of biological diversity, scientific applications, international cooperation have been concerned and enhanced.
In addition, awareness, responsibilities and actions on environmental protection have been heightened in the whole political system, business community and residents. The investment promotion in IPs, selective investment in the south has contributed largely in environmental pollution prevention, remedies, improving environmental quality, proactively controlling pollution, industrialization and modernization process attached to environmental protection, guaranteeing a sustainable development of Binh Duong province.
