With bare hands, Nguyen Van Ty in Thanh Tuyen commune’s Suoi Cat hamlet in Dau Tieng district has managed to rise up out of poverty and secured a stable life. He is now the owner of a fruit orchard and a fish pond with the big size.
In 2000, Ty spent VND30mln on buying a land of 1.5 hectares in Thanh Tuyen commune’s Suoi Cat hamlet. And he made efforts to improve the poor land that was heavily infected with alum for rice cultivation.
After several rice crops, he discovered that the land was very suitable to grow mangosteen. Since early 2005, he has searched and grown 250 mangosteen trees while digging a pond for raising fish.
His 2,500sq.m-fish pond now raises many different kinds of fish under the training program of provincial Agricultural Promotion Center. Among them, three kinds of fish bringing him hi-economic efficiency include Taiwanese-origin tilapia, osphronemus goramy and anabas. He said that his family can earn tens of millions of dong in profit for each fish harvest.
His family last year secured VND30mln from 1 tons of mangosteen. This year, province-based mangosteen orchards have faced a poor crop, but his mangosteen orchard has still reached a total output of 1.5 tons, bringing him VND50mln…
