Spring coming to Khmer ethnic people
Binh Duong is now home to 18 groups
of ethnic minority. According to statistics, as of 2011, there were 4,246
ethnic minority households with 19,643 people. Binh Duong had no more poor
ethnic minority households under the central poverty line and the number of
poor ethnic minority households herein under the local poverty line also only
accounts for a small proportion. 
San Chay ethnic minority people getting animated with a festival praying for good crop
Kim Van Phuoc, a Khmer resident in An Binh commune’s Nuoc Vang hamlet in Phu Giao district said: “My family secure a month income of nearly VND20mln from rubber latex. This year, many family will enjoy a well-off Tet with many home appliances purchased like fridge, air conditioners. It is hoped that my family always secure such high income for a well-off Tet”.
Thanks to the attention and help of authorities at all levels, the family of Nguu Phuong, a Khmer resident in Nuoc Vang hamlet’s group 3 rose up out of poverty. She is also living in a charity house built by the local government. When Tet approaches, ethnic minority people herein are always presented gifts. Thanks to the support programs of Party and State, their lives have been improved and this year, they will enjoy a happy and joyous Tet.
An Binh commune over time paid attention to ethnic affairs, especially giving vocational training and allocating farming land to ethnic minority people. There were 93 Khmer ethnic households granted farming land in Suoi Sai. After being granted farming land, these households effectively got involved in production. The local government also gave vocational training in terms of rubber latex tapping, motorbike repairing, hairdressing, animal husbandry, cultivation…to ethnic minorities people.
Nguyen Van Chien, Deputy Secretary of An Binh communal Party Committee affirmed: “The lives of ethnic minority people herein are very stable. The whole commune is now home to 244 Khmer ethnic minority households. Ethnic minority people herein always receive support policies from authorities at all levels, so their lives have obvious changes. Many local cadres are ethnic minority people and hold important positions in the local government.
San Chay ethnic people overcoming difficulties to welcome spring
Phu Giao district’s Tam Hiep commune is now home to more than 100 San Chay ethnic people. Thanks to the attention and help of authorities plus the efforts by themselves, San Chay ethnic households herein secure a stable and well-off life. Some households, along with rubber cultivation, also get involved in animal husbandry to increase their income.
As a commando captain with deed of arms, Le Van Binh was also the first San Chay ethnic person to reclaim this poor land for production. He also mobilized his relatives and other people in the commune to get involved in afforestation and land reclamation for production, helping improve their lives. Thanks to following his way, many San Chay ethnic households herein rose up out of poverty and secured a stable life. He was also awarded the title of “Good farmer in production and business”.
Nguyen Chau Long, Chairman of Tam Hiep communal People’s Committee said that over the past time, support polices for ethnic minority people were implemented by many forms such as granting rice, nurslings, fertilizer, home appliances, production tools…, contributing to considerably improving their lives.
Spring brings a new impetus. Therefore, San Chay ethnic minority people is also very animated with many festivals praying for good crops at the beginning of the new year. In costumes full of colors, San Chay ethnic minority people brings more spring colors to this well-off rural region.
