Ethnic minority people make efforts to escape poverty

Thanks to the attention and support of the local government plus their own efforts, ethnic minority people in the province have so far risen up out of poverty and been determined to get rich.

Commune with no more poor households

Tam Lap commune in Phu Giao district is now home to 24 ethnic minority households, most of them are San Chay ones. In 1980, they arrived in the commune and got themselves up in business. They made efforts to rise up out of poverty after many years of living and working. Hence, the commune now has no more poor ethnic minority households. Many are well-off households with spacious houses, modern home appliances, vehicles…

Nguyen Anh Vu, Chairman of Tam Lap communal People’s Committee said that in order to gain the above result, the commune over the past time gave support for ethnic minority people in economic development. Particularly, the commune organized training courses on cultivation-animal husbandry for ethnic minority people while creating favorable conditions for them to get loans to develop production models.

Many other communes in the province, namely Tan Hiep in Phu Giao district, Minh Hoa in Dau Tieng district…have also seen rapid decrease in the number of poor ethnic minority households. For example, among the 100 Cham ethnic households in Minh Hoa commune, there were 15-20 poor ones in the past. But now, the number of poor Cham ethnic people in the commune reduces to 6.  This result came from the attention and help of the local administration plus the efforts by the local ethnic minority people…

Sustainable poverty escape

According to provincial People’s Committee Office’s Division of Ethnic Affairs, as of late 2017, the whole province only had a total of 56 poor ethnic minority households.

Representative of provincial People’s Committee Office’s Division of Ethnic Affairs said that over the past years, the province well realized policies for ethnic minority people. Particularly, the province gave priority to building houses, works on clean water, toilets for poor and near-poor households while creating favorable conditions for them to get loans in association with guiding how to develop production models and making sci-tech transfer in production. Be Van Hau, a Tay ethnic resident in Dau Tieng district’s Long Hoa commune said that thanks to the support of the local administration, his family has so far secured a stable life with 2 hectares of rubber trees under exploitation. He has also got involved in groceries business and animal husbandry.

Provincial People’s Committee Office’s Division of Ethnic Affairs will further coordinate with relevant agencies to implement policies on socio-economic development in the region with ethnic minority people; especially pay attention to taking care of them in terms of production, healthcare and education..., thereby contributing to improving their spiritual and material lives.

According to statistics, the province now has 24 ethnic minority groups with 6,892 households and 24,177 people or 1.16% of total population. Along with support in economic development, the province over the past time organized cultural-sports playgrounds for ethnic minority people. They also actively took part in cultural-sports festivals in and out of the province and won many medals...
