The statement was made by Dam Trong Cuong, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Transport on the occasion of the “World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents”. Binh Duong Daily had an interview with Mr. Cuong to know more about this issue.
Could you tell us why Binh Duong takes part in activities responding to “World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents”?
There was a complicated development about road traffic accidents over the past time. Compared to 2012’s October, the number of road dead victims nationwide increased by 1.6% while the figure in Binh Duong rose by 7.6%. Binh Duong is now home to around 800,000 immigrant laborers with the highest number of infringements on traffic safety. Hence, under the plan of the National Traffic Safety Committee, provincial Traffic Safety Committee has been allowed to organize activities in response to “World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents” to warn the whole society of the causes and serious consequences of traffic accidents.
What about provincial Traffic Safety Committee’s activities in response to World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents”?
We have organized a host of propaganda activities about the goal and significance of the event of remembrance for road dead victims while warning the public against traffic tragedies and their causes and risks in Vietnam; enhancing the entire people’s awareness of compliance with traffic regulations and traffic accident prevention; strengthening responsibilities of relevant agencies in traffic management; and gathering sympathy and support from communities for traffic victims and their families.
Communication campaigns on traffic safety have been conducted at schools across the province via reading messages in remembrance of road traffic victims at their routine flag saluting ceremony on the morning of November 11. A requiem will also be organized for road traffic victims by provincial Traffic Safety Committee in conjunction with relevant agencies at 18pm of November 17, 2013 with the participation of more than 1,000 people.
What is your assessment of the situation of traffic accidents in the province since early this year?
Around 2,936 traffic accidents were reported across the province during the first ten months of 2013. Compared to the same period of 2012, this was a reduction of 374 accidents (down by 11.3%), a reduction in the number of injuries (down by 780 injured people or 17.6%) and an increase in the number of fatalities (up 23 deaths or by 7.6%)
According to the assessment of provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the situation of traffic in the province got complicated, especially there was an increase in the numbers of deaths during the time.
What measures provincial Traffic Safety Committee will step up to minimize traffic accidents?
In the coming time, provincial Traffic Safety Committee will speed up propaganda activities to raise public compliance about traffic rules while strengthening patrols and strictly punishing wrong cases on traffic safety, contributing to minimizing traffic accidents…

Boosting friendly relationship between youth of Binh Duong and Daejeon city
Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee was allowed to set up a Vietnam-Korea Cultural Center in June 2013.
This is the first international exchange center under the management of the Binh Duong Provincial Youth Union to help promote cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea as well as the relationship between Binh Duong and Daejeon City.
Since its inception, the center has organized significant exchange activities among the youth of the two localities. Provincial Youth Union has also mobilized Korean businesses and other great businesses in the province to support more than VND800mln for the province’s fund for Viet-Korea cultural exchange activities.
In a bid to strength friendly relations between Binh Duong and Daejeon city, provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has instructed the center to further organize cultural exchange activities between the two localities. Accordingly, the second cultural exchange gala “Colors of Vietnam-Korea” will take place at provincial Cultural House for Children.
