Flexible online teaching and learning

To ensure safety and to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic, in the first 2 months of the new school year 2021-2022, students in the province will study online. Up to the present time, the whole education and training sector has ready the conditions for teachers and students to engage in remote teaching and learning.

As planned, in the first 2 months of the school year 2021-2022, Binh Duong students will study online to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic.

Connection to students

According to the annual practice, before entering the new school year and after enrolling first-year students, schools would organize class placement and assign monitoring teachers. On the first day of school, teachers and students meet, practice rules, and build study habits. However, in the new school year 2021-2022, due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic in the province, all of the above activities are done online. At the beginning of the new school year, teachers and students will teach and learn online. On this basis, from the end of August, schools have informed parents and students via Zalo groups of the list of students who will be placed in classes in the new school year. Through the exchange, leaders of Department of Education and Training said that, up to now, the schools have assigned monitoring and subject  teachers to be connected with all students.

In addition to arrangement of classes, the most important part is implementation of online teaching and learning activities. To prepare for the special school year, Department of Education and Training has instructed educational units and institutions to continue to guide teaching via internet and television to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic. Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of Department of Education and Training, said that the Department ha directed its Divisions of Education and Training, schools and education centers to actively develop plans for flexible implementation in timely and suitable manners during the epidemic situation in the localities and areas. In particular, the form of online teaching and learning must be focused and deployed regularly by the grassroots units to offer more time for students to review throughout the school year.

By the direction of the Department, units and schools have established information technology teams to support teachers in teaching in many online forms. For schools, the principals assign expertise in time for teachers to support one another in contacting the parents of students in Zalo groups to prepare for online learning in the near future. For the primary level, the Department noted that schools should purchase a number of curricula along with good lesson plans to support teachers in the process of online teaching and learning.

To improve the quality of online teaching activities, Department of Education and Training and its Divisions of Education and Training have organized training courses to improve the capacity of information technology application in teaching in all subjects. Leaders of Department of Education and Training also said that in the new school year, the Department will strengthen teaching equipment for units in the direction of standardization and modernization to meet the requirements of teaching and learning in the current period and to meet the application of information technology in appropriate management and teaching.

Flexible forms of online teaching

According to the province's plan, in the first 2 months of the new school year, students in the province will study online to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic. This is a new form of teaching and learning, but in the process of implementing, many obstacles emerged. According to the leaders of Department of Education and Training, currently many students are the children of workers in industrial zones and families in remote areas, making them unable to afford the equipment for their children to participate in online learning. Department of Education and Training directs educational institutions to make the most of the time outside of online teaching and learning hours to strengthen teaching and supplementing knowledge for those affected students who cannot participate in online learning by means of images and other aids.

On deploying online teaching and learning, Dau Tieng district faces many difficulties when some students do not have learning devices and in some places poor internet connection. Mr. Ta Tan Tuan, Head of Education and Training Division of Dau Tieng district, said that in order for the children not to be disadvantaged, the Division has calculated many options. Through the review, at present, more than 10% of students in Dau Tieng have no conditions to study online.  In these cases, the teacher will photocopy the assignments for the students. At Hoa Loc hamlet in Minh Hoa commune, internet is not available, so the division has planned students of Hoa Loc Primary School to study online at the school's computer room as long as they ensure the requirements of Covid-19 prevention and control. The division also directs elementary schools to organize online teaching in the afternoon or evening and even on holidays for students who cannot attend by the fixed time frame.

Binh Duong is a province with a large population concentration of workers and the number of students and children of workers also accounts for a high percentage. Mr. Tran Van Dong, Head of Education and Training Division of Tan Uyen town, said that, through the inspection of the whole town, about 40% of students have no conditions to participate in online teaching and learning. For those students, when they are able to return to school, private lessons will be organized for them to keep up with their peers. “For online teaching and learning activities, during the primary school briefing, the department directed schools to flexibly develop teaching plans suitable to the actual situation of the schools. In the near future we will establish groups of teachers by subjects. Accordingly, teachers will share lessons with one another by sending clips of such lessons," said Mr. Dong.
