Green Sundays
"Voluntary Saturday", "Green Sunday" are Youth Union's movements that are familiar to Youth Union members nationwide. Binh Duong's youth spent their weekends on many environmental protection activities to actively support this movement. Since beginning of the year, Standing Committee of Provincial Youth Union has organized two launching ceremonies of "Green Sunday" in early March and late May. Accordingly, 100% Youth Union branches took part in with many practical jobs, such as: Communicating about the prevention control of Covid-19; cleaning and planting trees on self-governing roads, removing wrong advertising boards; the program "Exchanging waste for gifts", "New appearance for old walls and electric poles"...
In particular, to carry out activities of planting, tending and protecting trees according to the allocations of the Central Youth Union in program "For a Green Vietnam" and Provincial People's Committee in program "For a green Binh Duong", Binh Duong youth continued to implement the movement "Each youth official and member plant and take care of at least one new tree" and planting trees associated with important events, complete the target "Each Youth Union branch has a youth garden" to create a green - clean - beautiful landscape, environment. Accordingly, each district, town and city Youth Union must have at least 4 models of environmental protection; continue to maintain green volunteers teams in communes, wards, towns, and establish new ones, connect clubs, groups, teams of volunteers to plant and care for planted trees.
Nguyen Khanh Linh, Youth Union Secretary of Phu Cuong Ward (Thu Dau Mot City), said: “Youth Union of Phu Cuong Ward actively organized environmental protection activities, such as cleaning canals, central roads; encouraged people and small businesses in Thu Dau Mot market to actively protect environmental sanitation... These activities have contributed to environmental protection in the area, creating spillover effects among union members and people, and raising people's awareness of environmental protection, heightening the role and responsibility of union members in environmental protection”.
Say no to plastic waste
In response to the movement "Fighting against plastic waste", Binh Duong youth actively communicated among officials, union members, youth, people and organized activities to raise awareness, change behaviors, the habit of single-use plastic products, undecomposed nylon bags, contributing to reducing environmental pollution, protecting human health and the ecosystem. The Standing Committee of Provincial Youth Union also directed Youth Union of districts, towns, cities to actively collaborate with municipal Offices of Natural Resources and Environment to collect and classify used products from plastic, packaging, nylon bags and transport to recycling, disposal according to regulations; encourage each union official of all levels and civil servants to act and encourage their family to "Say no to plastic products".
Besides, Provincial Youth Union directed to continue maintaining and expanding the model of "Green lodging houses" among young workers, equip waste bins for classification of waste at lodging houses; effectively implement the program "The second journey of tires" launched by the Central Youth Union to present playgrounds made from used tires to Youth Union branches. During the year, the whole province presented 10 playgrounds of "The second journey of tires". In addition, the province also implemented two programs "The second journey of tires", presented playing areas to children, and flower beds made from recycled tires worth 10 million VND to Little Star Preschool in Ben Cat Town and 13 wards of Thu Dau Mot City.
Communities act together
To perform the Plan 181 dated May 30th 2019 of Provincial Youth Union on "To organize activities to propagate environmental protection, protect natural resources and join hands to cope with climate change in 2020", provincial Youth Union's Executive Committee launched propaganda activities, calling for union members and people to participate in major environmental programs held annually, such as "Earth Hour Campaign", "World Environment Day" in many forms, like: Propaganda through mass media; hanging banners and posters on main roads, in public areas; distributing documents, leaflets... Provincial Youth Union also directed Youth Unions of districts, towns, cities and affiliates to encourage people to take part in the movement of general sanitation of housing areas, public places, markets, streets, alleys; dredging and clearing drains, canals; planting trees to create a green - clean - beautiful urban landscape, protecting environment and water resources.
Tran Bao Lam, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Youth Union, appealed: “All units and the entire people together raise awareness of environmental protection, actively plant and protect trees and forests; reduce the use of plastic products, instead of environmentally friendly products; do not waste food; save electricity and water; no littering…; regularly propagandize so that people can see the role and meaning of environmental protection, contributing to mitigating the negative effects of climate change, natural disasters, and protecting the environment, ourselves and family.
