In 1986, Loc and his wife’s only asset was a cranky cottage. They had to do many various works to earn a living. In 1988, their first child was ill but they had no money to buy medicines for him. To help them, An Thanh ward People’s Committee and neighbors assisted them whilst the war Farmers’ Society offered non-interest loans for them to develop production.
With the support of capital, Loc invested in breeding pigs but he unfortunately encountered failure, owing to epidemics. After that, he decided to borrow capital from the local program of poverty reduction to raise cows. Thanks to patience, his cow herd developed well.
Aside from cow breeding, Loc joins in growing safe vegetables to improve income. “Thanks to breeding cows, I have money to invest in planting vegetables. Incomes from cow breeding and vegetable growing help my family pay debts rapidly”, Loc revealed.
At present, on the vegetable-growing area of more than 3,000sqm, Loc and his wife have planted cucumber and bitter melon with the income of about VND50mil per year. The couple has managed to build a spacious house.
Tang Van Hiep, chairman of An Thanh ward Farmers’ Society, said “Nguyen Cong Loc’s household is one of local typical families of poverty escape and wealth making. At present, Loc is a member of the Club for Farmers. Lastly, he won the title of good farmer in production and business from the provincial Farmers’ Society.
