Fund for disadvantaged children – a year looking back

In 2010, disadvantaged children have been helped by the fund. Thanks to this, family of Luong Vinh Lam residing at Sa Dup, Phuoc Sang, Phu Giao is now moved to a new house while Nguyen Hoang Duy, born in 1996, has a new heart at the operation cost of USD 2,950. They are just the two cases helped by the fund of over VND 2.5 billion to take care of disadvantaged children.

Hearing aid is offered to disadvantaged children.

Healthcare is one of supportive activities that the fund has facilitated for heart operations for 33 children at the cost of over VND 840 million, and cleft lip and palate surgery treatment for 5 children. In carrying out “Viet Nam never stops growing” milk fund sponsored by Vinamilk, the provincial children fund has distributed milk to schools, centers, and social supportive agencies to give milk to malnourished children at a hospital for mothers and children under sponsorship of Abbott Laboratories S.A.

Meantime, disadvantaged children have no chance to entertain themselves in recreational activities. Understanding their problems, the fund has organized full-moon festival attracting about 1,000 children. In 2010, the fund has awarded 792 gifts and 349 scholarship packages, 4 computers, and 27 bikes to children at the cost of VND 692 million.

This year’s activities will include a program to support children in spring time. According to plan, Departments of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs at districts will coordinate with the fund to pay gift visits to 700 children across 7 districts and towns and 300 children at the centers and social supportive agencies. The program is expected to start fabulously on lunar December 18 when 400 disadvantaged children are entertained with lion and dragon dances, art performances and VND 200,000-worth gifts.

“In the past time, our fund is taken care of by leaders, unions, and donation so that our activities are maintained for disadvantaged children even in remote areas of the province. For the time to come, we wish to receive more support for children who are in need of care and love from everyone and have all rights of children in the community,” said Mrs. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh – Director of the fund.
