The province has implemented a lot of support policies for the local ethnic minority people, thereby helping them improve their lives and approach optimal services.
There are considerable changes in Tam Lap commune’s Dong Tam hamlet in Phu Giao district. Along with spacious houses worth hundreds of million of dong, the local people have owned equipment and machines for production. La Van Su, a San Chay ethnic resident in the hamlet said that thanks to the attention and help of the local authorities at all levels, the lives of ethnic minority people herein have got better, contributing to the local development.

Also like San Chay ethnic people in Tam Lap commune, Lo Van Phuong Binh, a Thai ethnic resident in TDM city’s Chanh Nghia ward is very happy when escaping from poverty. Binh said that with bare hands, he and his wife rose up out of poverty. In 1991, Chanh Nghia ward’s officials guided him how to breed pigs and plant frangipane trees. He also attended training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry organized by the city’s Ornamental Creature Association and the ward’s Farmers’ Association. After that, he effectively applied his knowledge in cultivation and animal husbandry. His family’s annual income now reaches around VND100million.
Support policies from authorities at all levels plus their own efforts have helped the local ethnic minority people improve their lives. According to statistics, the whole province last year had a total of 838 well-off ethnic minority households and 959 ones with average living standards. There were many role-models in the emulation movement of “Good ethnic minority people in production and business”. They include Thach Thi Ngoc, a Khmer ethnic resident in Dau Tieng district’s Minh Hoa commune; Ly Thi Nguyen, a Nung ethnic resident in Tan Uyen town’s Vinh Tan commune; Lam Hong Quan, a San Chay ethnic resident in Dau Tieng district’s Tam Lap commune…
Phan Ngoc Cua, Deputy Head of Department of Ethnic Affairs under provincial People’s Committee Office said that provincial People’s Committee has applied central policies for poor and near-poor ethnic minority people. They have also implemented some national target programs on new rural construction, poverty reduction, job creation... All have contributed to giving strength to the local ethnic minority people, step by step improving their lives.
In the coming time, the province will further instruct the local authorities at all levels to have close coordination with Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and other mass organizations to propagandize the significance of support policies from the State for the local ethnic minority people and mobilize them to make efforts in rising up out of poverty while increasing training for them to get better results in cultivation and animal husbandry.
Currently, there are 9,744 ethnic minority people living in TDM city, Di An and Thuan An town and the majority of them work as officials, public servants or get involved in home industrial production, trade-services. The remaining 7,378 ethnic minority people live in towns of Ben Cat, Tan Uyen and districts of Phu Giao, Dau Tieng, Bau Bang and North Tan Uyen. They mainly earn their lives by farm doing, work as workers at rubber companies and are freelance laborers.
