Failing assistance from the “Truong Son gratitude” housing support program of Vietcombank and Saigon Liberation Newspaper, we would not have any accommodation. In the last rainy season, we were very happy when living in a new house. This statement is words from veterans who used to be Truong Son soldiers.
Memories of young age
After many hours of passing through hamlets, members of the “Truong Son gratitude” housing support program arrived at small houses of poor veterans of the then Truong Son battlefield.

Veteran Nguyen Dinh Sy enjoy gift from the “Truong Son gratitude” housing support program.
Nguyen Dinh Sy, nearly 90, used to be an Uncle Ho soldier and experienced 2 resistance wars of the country. After returning from military service, he took his family to Binh Phuoc province’s Loc Ninh district to enjoy a new life. He has one daughter and 4 boys, one of whom is a martyr. He has now lived with his first-born boy who used to be a veteran. Sy was wounded seriously in a resistance war and now he is under a delusion. Other veterans also told about their young age on the Truong Son battlefield with full of pride.
Where gratitude stagnates
With the spirit of gratitude repayment, people returning from Truong Son battlefield now feel warm when receiving the care from the program. They said that their life has changed as if in a dream.
Tran Van Quy-el, a Khmer ethnic person in Thanh Tay hamlet of Binh Phuoc province’s Loc Ninh district perhaps is the happiest person among veterans who enjoy houses in the program. He enjoys both a new house and productive land. He told “My wife and I used to veterans in Truong Son battlefield and used to suffer tortures caused by enemy. With 10 children, poverty pursues us. We left our Ca Mau homeland to seek a new life in this locality with a hope of escaping poverty. After over 4 years of living away our homeland, we now possess a new house and productive land.
Notably, Binh Phuoc province’s border guards also joined in the program. They helped veterans build houses. Nguyen Thi Gai, head of division for contributors under the Binh Phuoc provincial department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said “We are grateful to Vietcombank Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc province. We hope to receive support from units, donors to joining forces together in the program”.
The “Truong Son gratitude” housing support program aims at granting scholarships and gratitude houses to veterans, former volunteer youths, wounded soldiers, martyr’s relatives and their children.
Joining in the program, Vietcombank Binh Duong donated VND1.7bil to grant 50 gratitude houses and 100 scholarships to veterans and students of Binh Phuoc province.
