Addressing the presentation ceremony on August 6, Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao, said the precious souvenirs from Truong Sa are evidence that affirms Vietnam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands.
The gift aims to educate generations of Vietnamese people about the sovereignty of the Truong Sa archipelago and raise awareness and responsibility for defending national territorial integrity, he added.
Deputy Minister of National Defence, Navy Chief, Vice-Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, said the coral symbolises Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago.
He emphasised that, over the nation's thousand year history, the islands and sea have always been an indispensable part of the Vietnamese people, who are determined to defend Vietnam’s sovereignty over both the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.
