Marking the International Day of Older Persons (October 1), on September 29, various leaders of the province, districts, towns, and Thu Dau Mot City extended their gift visits to those of 100 years old and older to express the care of all-level authorities and the whole society for older persons.

The visits and greetings, on the International Day of Older Persons, are implemented by all-level authorities to offer local older persons a chance of meeting up their grand grand children, next of kin, and neighborhood in wishings and encouragement for longevity and health in cultural trait of thousand years old in Vietnam. Receiving the gift presented by Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thi Phuoc at Phu Tho Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, said joyfully: “Thank you for your care. I am 100 now and so happy to receive your gifts.”

Doan Van Nam at Tan Vinh Hiep Commune of Tan Uyen Town is now 100 years old and enjoying warm family life. His time of happiness was shared up by Nguyen Thanh Liem, the Member of Standing Board and Head of Mass Mobilization of Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee and Department of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs leaders in their visit of longevity wishing. Nguyen Thanh Liem presented gift and forwarded longevity wishing card of State President to Doan Van Nam. Liem wished him healthy and happy life as an example for children and grand children of the family while calling upon all-level auhtorities and local departments to improve the care for older persons.
“Taking care of the elderlies is responsibility and obligation as the good cultural trait of our people,” said Nguyen Thanh Liem.
Ho Quang Diep, the Director of Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that the department keeps annual consultancy for visits and longevity wishing visits by leaders of Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. Diep also informed that the province has established 4 delegations to visit the elderlies of 100 years old in Thu Dau Mot Town, Tan Uyen Town, Di An Town, and Phu Giao District. For other localities, local delegations are established by their own budget. In 2015, the province eyes 26 older persons of 100 years old and 61 other of more than 100 years old.
For meaningful activities
Departments and agencies have made remarkable achievements in taking care of and improving spiritual life of older persons. In 2015, 12,542 elderlies have been offered monthly allowances and medical insurance cards. In 9 months of 2015, Binh Duong Provincial Association of Older Persons has coordinated to offer 5,241 gifts at the cost of VND 427 million and gifts to over 5,000 olders persons of illness and difficulties in life. Besides, associations of older persons in Thuan An Town, Thu Dau Mot City have offered loans to 407 older persons of labor age at the cost of VND 670 million. In the meantime, Association of Older Persons in Bac Tan Uyen District has donated to construct 3 charity houses for older persons of hardship at the cost of VND 90 million.
In 9 months of 2015, over 3,000 elderlies have been offered free health services and medicines; over 4,000 have been advised by doctors to practice self-caring. At the cost of nearly VND 2 billion, a drive of bright eyes for older people has 1,975 eye checked and 728 supported by free eye surgery.
Along with health-caring, spiritual lives of the elderlies have been taken good care of through various visits and club activities. Besides, many trips have been offered to member elderlies.
