than 300 commanders, former commanders, military officers, historical witnesses
and scientists gathered at a workshop on the Ho Chi Minh sea trail in Hai Phong
City on September 22, as
part of the 50th anniversary of the launch of the legendary trail. 
The workshop, entitled “The Ho Chi Minh sea trail – the path of Vietnam’s will and creativity”, was co-chaired by Deputy Ministers of Defence Nguyen Thanh Cung and Nguyen Van Hien.
24 reports presented at the seminar clarified the significance and the historical role of the trail and Vietnam’s military art, as well as contributions and sacrifices of cadres and soldiers of the unnumbered ships, during the war against the US imperialists.
In a letter sent to the seminar, former Vietnamese State President emphasised the important roles of the East Sea, both in wartime and present.
“I hope the seminar will be able to draw useful lessons to contribute to the national construction and protection of sovereignty, especially of the sea and islands,” he said.
During its 14 years of existence (1961-1975), the Ho Chi Minh sea trail allowed hundreds of unnumbered ships to carry 150,000 tonnes of goods and weapons and 80,000 cadres and soldiers from the north to the frontline in the south, joining the entire people’s efforts to defeat the US imperialists to liberate the south and reunify the country.
