A competition entitled “Lai Thieu pottery now and then” is taking place at Thuan An town’s Center for Culture and Sports, beginning from June 18 to 19.
Nguyen Tan Dung, Director of the center said that the organizing board of the competition has received more than 300 old Lai Thieu pottery items from artisans in and out of the province. Some pottery companies in the province, namely Minh Long I, Cuong Phat and Trung Thanh, have also sent their products to the competition.
After 150 years of development, Lai Thieu pottery items have reached diversification in design and expressed the cultural life and flexibility of Lai Thieu’s people and land. So far, they have been present in many domestic and foreign markets with the existence of great values in terms of fine art and technology.
The first Lai Thieu pottery competition aimes to review the tradition of pottery making, thereby upholding its advantage, potential and creativeness. It is also a chance for pottery artisans to exchange and share mutual experience in the domain, contributing to preserving and bringing into full play the traditional cultural features of Thuan An town’s people towards a more prosperous and powerful homeland.
