Overcoming difficulties
From the done results in implementing policies and programs of poverty reduction for the period, over two third of districts and communes have basically escaped poverty. Tens of thousands of poor families have escaped poverty sustainably thanks to assistance form the State and community.

Nguyen Van Hoanh in Phu Giao district’s Phuoc Sang commune is one of typical families of poverty escape. In 2005, his 5-member family lived on his modest income. Enjoying a VND10mil loan assisted by the local authority, he started animal husbandry and rubber planting. He has so far enjoyed a stable income and officially escaped poverty.
Meanwhile, Mai Van Bay in Tan Uyen district’s Tan Dinh commune has escaped poverty thanks to animal husbandry and mushroom planting. With a VND10mil loan from the local bank for policies in 2008, he invested in breeding cows. Till 2009, he borrowed additional VND15mil from preferential credit loan to plant mushroom. So far he has reaped VND150,000/day from selling mushroom, VND3.5mil/month from selling chickens and about VND800,000/day from selling rubber latex.
Cao Van Son in Tan Uyen district’s Hieu Liem commune, shared “aside from the State and community’s assistance, the poor should make efforts to save expenditure and develop production for a happy and prosperous family”.
Synchronous measures
The 2006-2010 local poverty reduction program ended and local poverty standards have been adjusted in conformity with local socio-economic development.
By policies of poverty reduction, till the end of 2010, the locality finished poverty reduction goal with the poverty rate of under 1.5%. Binh Duong is one of provinces and cities with the country’s lowest poverty rate.
The above results are thanks to breakthrough policies in conformity with local development. Over the past 5 years, Binh Duong Bank for Social Policies has excelled its tasks with 8 programs for the poor.
Policies of vocational training and job generation for rural laborers and poor people have been launched widely. Movements of “The full leaves cover the tattered ones” and “live and work in peace and contentment” are one of creations that the province has set out to help the poor. These are local distinctive policies brining joy for local needy people.
