Humanitarian Month: Spreading love

With the theme of "Humanitarian Journey - Spreading Love", this year’s Humanitarian Month has been embraced by provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels through numerous meaningful activities. These efforts embody the spirit of solidarity and social responsibility, spreading love and calling on the community to join hands in helping those with difficult circumstances, giving them the motivation and confidence to rise up in life.

Launching meaningful activities

The 2025 provincial Humanitarian Month was launched early by provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels. According to provincial Red Cross Society’s plan, this year’s Humanitarian Month runs from March 1 to May 31, 2025, with peak activities taking place from May 8 (International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day) to May 19 (the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the founder and first Honorary President of the society).

Construction of Red Cross houses for 3 households in Phu Giao district started with support from provincial Red Cross Society

In response to this year’s Humanitarian Month, Phu Giao district has been actively implementing plans and mobilizing resources to organize humanitarian activities, aiming at gathering as much support as possible for disadvantaged people.

Nguyen Duc Thanh, Vice Chairman of Phu Giao district’s Red Cross Society stated that several activities have already been carried out in response to the Humanitarian Month. Specifically, the construction of three Red Cross houses began in Vinh Hoa and An Long communes and Phuoc Vinh town, with provincial Red Cross Society providing VND 100 million per house. Additionally, three wheelchairs worth over VND 8.2 million were donated to disabled individuals in need. The district also launched the "Millions of Compassionate Steps - Continuing the Golden History" campaign for 2025, organized a competition for outstanding Red Cross officials and collaborated with relevant units to provide health insurance cards to 50 disadvantaged individuals, with a total value of over VND 31 million…

After launching the 2025 Humanitarian Month, the Red Cross societies in Di An city have also organized various activities. Binh An ward’s Red Cross Society initiated the 2025 Humanitarian Month and introduced the "The Loving Bus: Sharing Love - Sharing Happiness" model, distributing health insurance cards to those in need. Meanwhile, Di An ward’s Red Cross Society worked with the SOS Di An Team and Thong Nhat quarter’s Red Cross Society branch to donate a wheelchair to Nguyen Manh Dung, a stroke survivor residing in Thong Nhat 1 quarter who is unable to walk independently.

Recently, Di An city’s Red Cross Society launched two humanitarian projects to celebrate the 2025 Humanitarian Month. These projects consist of two Red Cross houses, with each receiving VND 100 million in funding from provincial Red Cross Society for Nguyen Thi Thu Linh from Binh An ward and Nguyen Khac Binh from Tan Dong Hiep ward.

Along with other humanitarian activities, the construction of “Red Cross” houses for those struggling with housing insecurity is a practical form of support. The well-built houses, constructed through the collective efforts of the community, not only provide a secure home for those in need—offering them peace of mind and motivation to strive for a more stable and improved life—but also contribute to the goal of eliminating substandard houses, which is considered as a priority for local authorities.

Peak month of humanitarian efforts

With the theme of "Humanitarian Journey - Spreading Love", this year’s Humanitarian Month has set specific goals at each level of the Red Cross Society. At provincial level, resources will be mobilized to organize key humanitarian activities, including a medical consultation and free medicine distribution program for 300-500 people, a compassion day event and the implementation of humanitarian projects under the 2025 program…

The Red Cross Society of Binh An ward has introduced the “Loving Bus: Sharing Love - Sharing Happiness” model in response to the 2025 Humanitarian Month

At the district level, each district and city-level Red Cross Society aims at organizing at least one event promoting the "Good People, Good Deeds - Building a Compassionate Community" movement with community participation and assisting 100% of registered humanitarian cases. Each district will support the construction of one Red Cross house valued at VND 80 million per house and provide livelihood support to at least one impoverished household with VND 15 million per household per district. Additionally, each locality is encouraged to recruit at least 10 individuals to register for organ donation.

Furthermore, the Red Cross Societies of districts and cities aim at raising at least VND 350 million in resources to implement activities during the 2025 Humanitarian Month while being ready to respond to humanitarian needs throughout 2025. The local Red Cross officials, members, volunteers and youth are encouraged to participate in the "Millions of Compassionate Steps - Continuing the Golden History" campaign under the provincial plan. Each district or city aims at mobilizing at least 350 participants to walk or run on the vRace online sports platform, with collectively covering a total distance of 30,000 km, with donations equivalent to VND 1,000 per km (totaling VND 30 million) to fund humanitarian aid initiatives…

Throughout the 2025 Humanitarian Month, propaganda work will be intensified, promoting community engagement in the "Good People, Good Deeds - Building a Compassionate Community" movement. This initiative aims at gradually shifting perceptions about humanitarian work, foster a culture of compassion in society and encourage broader participation in humanitarian efforts to support disadvantaged individuals.

Focusing on sustainable and long-term support

According to leaders of provincial Red Cross Society, the Humanitarian Month is a peak period for nationwide humanitarian efforts. Along with resource mobilization for continuous activities, the Red Cross Society will organize a series of initiatives to assist impoverished individuals and vulnerable groups, with focus on such activities as supporting livelihood development, awarding scholarships, building Red Cross houses, constructing humanitarian projects and supporting meal programs for boarding and day students at schools in remote areas. Efforts are also directed towards establishing long-term support for poor households and those facing particularly difficult circumstances through the local designated humanitarian addresses.
