In Binh Duong alone, based on a census, as of April 1, 2009, local population reached 1,482,636 people, up 766,208 from 1999, 48.10% of whom are men. Binh Duong is the 17th most populous province in Vietnam. The rate of population increase reaches 2.25 times per year. However, the ratio of disposed residents is unbalanced between rural and urban areas. The local density of population surged from 266 people/km2 in 1999 to 550 people/km2 in 2009, ranking the 16th position from the whole country.
