Improving medical examination and treatment’s quality, overcoming hospital overload

Improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, overcoming overcrowding in hospitals is one of the key contents successfully done by the health sector in the 5 years of implementing the 12th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 20-NQ. /TW on "Strengthening the protection, care and improvement of people's health in the new context".

Quality of medical examination and treatment improved

According to doctor Le Ngoc Long, Deputy Director of provincial General Hospital, in order to achieve the goal of making on-site training, being independent of the resources of other units, the hospital has strongly innovated its training and technical transfer work. Over the past time, the hospital signed contracts on training with prestigious universities.

The hospital also cooperated with medical associations and organizations to organize scientific conferences with great values on medicine, hold online sessions for remote medical examination and treatment, Telehealth with upper level hospitals, namely Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Tu Du Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital... “Through this, doctors and medical staff exchanged experience, improved their qualifications and skills. A number of high technologies have been applied by the hospital to support examination, diagnosis and treatment such as application of microscopy and C-am systems in cranial and spinal surgery, orthopedics and urological trauma", said doctor Le Ngoc Long.

Not only provincial medical units, lower- level ones have also focused on improving the quality of medical examination and treatment. Doctor Huynh Thi Nguyet Phuong, Director of Thuan An city’s Medical Center shared: “Recently, the center has successfully amputated limbs for a patient with diabetes. This is the first amputation for a patient with diabetes and many other underlying conditions that the center has performed. The success of the case has marked an important development step in the center's combination treatment between internal medicine and surgery. With the successful implementation of this technique, local people can feel secure to choose Thuan An city’s Medical Center when they need it…

Improving overload

As of now, the province’s health sector has set up a project on overall development and organization of arranging and completing the grassroots health network with the model of a district health center performing three functions. The province has increased investment in material facilities and equipment at provincial General Hospital, putting a new treatment area of ​​the obstetrics department with a scale of 300 beds into operation, upgrading 11 operating rooms to ensure standards.

The sector has also implemented the pilot supply of all 76 technical categories under the basic medical service package, realized 2-way rotation for doctors and called for socialization of the medical field to build Binh Duong into a regional healthcare hub. From now to year-end, provincial Department of Health and relevant sectors will urgently complete a plan on relocating provincial General Hospital to a 1,500-bed General Hospital while relocating provincial-level medical facilities to the precinct of the hospital.

Assessing the results of the implementation of the Resolution No. 20-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee, Nguyen Loc Ha, Member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice-Chairman of provincial People's Committee said that over the past years, provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee are always interested in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment and overcoming the overload of hospitals. The province has directed the health sector to synchronously and regularly implement professional solutions, deploying criteria for evaluating hospital quality to ensure patients’ satisfaction.

Especially, the province’s health sector has rotated medical staff at higher levels to support lower levels in technology transfer and improve treatment quality. The sector has also drastically reformed the process of medical examination and treatment, implemented the code of professional ethics, and mobilized people to participate in health insurance. As a result, the quality of medical examination, treatment and people's health care has been improved.
