Indonesian continues to maintain neutral stance: President

In a conversation with Indonesian students at Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, President Prabowo emphasised that he will maintain the position that Indonesia is a country that respects and honours other nations, with no intention of engaging in any conflicts or signing any military alliances.

President Prabowo reiterated that this stance is in line with the vision of Indonesia’s past leaders, particularly the country’s first President Soekarno. Soekarno, and former Egyptian President Gamal Abdul Nasser were founders of the Non-Aligned Movement, which aimed to unite developing countries and ensure they did not align with either bloc during the Cold War, he said.

He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continue striving for peaceful solutions to resolve conflicts and to build a region of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

President Prabowo is currently in Egypt to attend the 10th Summit of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation. The D-8, founded in 1997, consists of eight member countries - Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. The D-8 Summit, attended by heads of state, serves as an important forum for discussing bilateral relations and shared international and regional issues./.
