Recently, Phu Giao District Clinic Center, aside from expansion of functional facilities and departments, has concentrated on information technology application into its health services to satisfy the public needs.
Reality needs
According to experts, daily data in a hospital is greatly dispersed by functional units due to its more complex organization than other agencies and organizations. The health service management is mainly on documents while the patients may be waiting for long before such administrative procedures are fulfilled for medical services.
Phu Giao District General Hospital (now Phu Giao District Clinic Center), by its project of information technology application to improve health services, has earned tremendous efficiency in management, reporting regime, and patient data management.

Doctor Phan Xuan Trung, Director of Hoang Trung Medical Computer Development Co. Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City and manager of the project evaluated that internal network of Phu Giao District Clinic, by actual check-up, is only used for information updates and reporting while health service data is not concentrated.
Besides, the clinic has allocated its staffs in charge of different work at the same time, i.e. some specialized doctors have to carry out administrative work of reporting and statistics. As the project is launched, the data input and output and patient profiles will be under computer management in a bid to reduce pending time for people applying for the services.
Preliminary effects
The project at Phu Giao District Clinic was initiated in September 2013 with preliminary effects on operation management by creating finance transparent and reducing pending time of the patients on services. Concurrently, drugs and medicines can be checked by statistic data and health services of medical insurance can be monitored. Besides, the project has brought up economic effects by saving up printing paper and films.
Doctor Nguyen Thanh Nguyen, Director of Phu Giao District Clinic, informed that the information technology application, ever since its establishment, has robustly transformed the health services and reduced time for the patients. Concurrently, the inter-connected information about patients among the departments and division is realtime, facilitating better diagnosis, fee charging, and medicine prescription.
“In reality, the project has basically been effective in connecting health service data; however, this is only the initial step of internal management. The project should be applicable for management system construction of clinic system from the district to communes, facilitating thorough State’s management and data exchange. This is a good hint for expansion of IT application into hospital management as well as data exchanges among local hospitals,” said Nguyen.
