Japan lauds Vietnam’s assistance for quake victims

The Japanese government highly valued support from the government and people of Vietnam for the country’s victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, said the Japanese Foreign Ministry at a press release.

 

 “The Japanese government is deeply moved by solidarity and generous assistance of the Vietnamese government and people”, the ministry said.

 After the natural disaster, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and other government officials of Vietnam sent messages of sympathy to the Japanese government and people. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, ministers and officials went to the Japanese Embassy in Hanoi to extend condolences to the quake-hit country.

In an effort to help Japan overcome difficulties posed by the massive disaster, the Vietnamese government handed over 200,000 USD to the Japan Red Cross.

On the occasion, campaigns to raise fund for Japanese quake victims have been launched nationwide.

 The central province of Quang Binh has collected over 100 million VND at its campaign, which will go on till April 15.

In the southern province of Ben Tre , officials, the provincial Fatherland Front and the provincial Red Cross Association presented 1 billion VND to the Japanese General Consulate in HCM City and over 500 million VND to the Vietnam Red Cross to aid Japanese victims.

 The central highland province of Dak Lak collected over 2.5 billion VND and 20,000 USD from officials, agencies, enterprises, units and individuals, of which 1 billion VND was contributed by Dak Lak Rubber Company.

 Police staff in northern province of Vinh Phuc province also offered 143 million VND.
