Joining hands for the poor

Organizations and individuals, especially the business community in the province have actively responded to the “Day for the Poor” campaign. On the International Day Against Hunger and Poverty (Oct.17), Binh Duong Daily had an interview with Pham Van Canh, Standing Member of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial Fatherland Front Committee (FFC) and Deputy Head of provincial Mobilization Board of the Day for the Poor.

How has provincial Fund for the Poor been implemented?

In 2002, Binh Duong set up the Fund for the Poor at provincial/district, town, city/communal, ward and township levels.

On the annually International Day Against Hunger and Poverty, provincial FFC organizes a peak month for the poor after the “Day for the Poor” campaign launched. The campaign has so far received enthusisatic response from organizations, individuals and enteprises across the province. They have been also honored for their contributions to the campaign.

Apartedly, provincial FFC will coordinate with provincial Industrial Parks Management Board to set up a delegation mobilizing contributions from enteprises in industrial parks

What are your suggestions to remove difficulties in the process of realizing the “Day for the Poor” campaign?

Provincial FFC needs to give more guidance to some social welfare programs of the local Fund for the Poor for better implementation while expanding those who receive support from the “Day for the Poor” campaign.

Since 2000, provincial Funds for the Poor at all levels have mobilized more than VND200bln from organizations and individuals. Over the past 10 years, they also helped the poor build and upgrade 8,017 unity and compassion houses; funded tens of thousands of people to get medical examination and treatment; offered help to thousands of poor children…
