The 18th National Week on Labor Safety-Hygiene (LSH) and Fire-Explosion Preventing (FEP) will run from Mar.20 to 26 with the theme of “Businesses and laborers are actively proactive to carry out their rights and duties under the Law on Labor Safety and Hygiene”. On this occasion, Binh Duong Newspaper had an interview with Ho Quang Diep, Director of provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) to know more about the province’s task ensuring LSH and FEP as well as measures against labor accidents, fire and explosion in the province.
What’s your assessment of the province’s task ensuring LSH and FEP over the past time?
Over the past time, the province’s Party, government and people paid more attention to LSH and FEP. Many activities in response to the annual National Week on LSH and FEP in association with the local task ensuring LSH and FEP were also organized. All contributed to raising employers and employees’ awareness of LSH and FEP.
Although authorities at all levels of the province, businesses and the entire society made efforts, there were 31 labor accidents and 21 fire-explosion cases, killing 1 person, reported in the province last year with total damage of around VND15bln. The local functional agencies also made administrative punishment in the field of LSH and FEP with total fine of more than VND2.1bln. Around 9% out of more than 75,000 samples surveying working environment did not meet standards as stipulated…
Could you tell us which businesses have excelled at LSH and FEP?
They are Binh Duong Telecommunications, Binh Duong Electricity, Binh Duong Minerals-Construction Joint Stock Co., New Wide Co.Ltd. in Ben Cat town, Shyang Hung Cheng Co.Ltd. in Thuan An town, Maruei Vietnam Precision Co.Ltd. in Thuan An town, PungKook Saigon 2 Co.Ltd. in Di An town…
They have established labor protective councils and set labor protective plans with concrete activities. They have also made inspection tours in workplaces to prevent labor accidents and fire-explosion cases; actively set a network of hygienists who are responsible for monitoring laborers in observing regulations on labor safety; organized training courses on LSH and FEP, anti-fire drills to reinforce laborer’ knowledge and raise their awareness of LSH and FEP.
In addition, they have set up healthcare divisions, organized periodic medical exams for laborers; launched emulation movements on LSH and FEP, reviewed them and opportunely honored outstanding laborers in this task; brought the contents of implementing LSH and FEP into production emulation for considering the level of laborers’ monthly and year-end salary.
Under this year’s theme, which measures provincial DoLISA will focus on?
To well realize the theme of the 18th National Week on LSH and FEP, provincial DoLISA will implement the Law on Labor Safety and Hygiene among laborers; effectively organize the National Program on LSH and FEP for the 2016-2020 period; improve and diversify propaganda activities on the National Week on LSH and FEP on the mass media; boost law dissemination on LSH and FEP among businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones.
Provincial DoLISA will also strengthen inspection over LSH and FEP; regularly speed up businesses to seriously carry out regulations and measures to ensure LSH and FEP; seriously handle infringements on LSH and FEP; organize activities in response to the National Week on LSH and FEP.
