Meeting with poor-but-excellent pupils
At the first provincial festival for poor-but-excellent pupils held in mid July, there was a very vivacious and handsome face. This was Nguyen Tran Uy Vu, a 7th grader of Trinh Hoai Duc high school in Thuan An town’s An Thanh ward. Vu said that his dream was to become a dermatologist so that he could cure patients who suffer a disease like him.
Vu’s family is one of An Thanh ward’s poor-near households. His father passed away while his brother was hit by a traffic accident. Hence, his mother has become a bread-winner of the family, but she cannot get involved in heavy jobs because of arthritis. Vu has also faced many diseases like dermatitis, low pressure blood… But, over the past 7 years, he was always a good pupil and won a lot of awards, including the third prize of the town-level online English competition; the first prize of the 2012 traffic safety competition; the second prize of the 2012 Hoa Mi (nightingale) singing voice competition…Vu said that his mother was a motivation for his efforts in study.
Despites difficulties, Dao Ngoc Chau in Thuan An town’s Vinh Phu ward has also tried her best to gain good results in study. She was a good pupil for the nine consecutive years. Although facing difficulties with low income, Chau’s parents have always taken good care of her and her younger sister. Realizing this, Chau and her younger sister have been determined to well study. The local authorities and Chau’s school have also give more help to her. Chau said that she has wanted to be able to further pursue my learning to make my dream of becoming a teacher…
