Provincial Labor Union suggested its branches and trade union locals to well realize plans to take care of employees before, during and after the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2017 right from November 2016. For greater concern, Binh Duong Daily had an interview with Bui Thanh Nhan, President of provincial Labor Union.
Could you tell us about provincial Labor Unions at all levels’ detail plans on taking care of employees on Tet?
For higher trade unions, they have been suggested to map out plans and instruct trade union locals to coordinate with employers to organize programs in celebration of the Party and New Year with a lot of significant activities for employees, encourage them to well obey working regulations to ensure safety before, during and after Tet; team up with local authorities to visit and present gifts to policy beneficiary families, employees suffering serious labor accidents and those who are not able to return home for Tet…

Over the past years, Binh Duong well realized a program named “Spring buses”. How will these buses be organized this year?
Under the “Spring buses” program, provincial Labor Union over the past years gave more than 7,000 free bus tickets for needy employers to come back home for Tet. This year, provincial Labor Union will continue offering 3,000 free Tet bus tickets to outstanding employees and those with difficult circumstances. They will be also supported meal expense between VND100,000 and VND200,000 each.
It is known that Binh Duong hosts a “Gathering in Tet holiday” program this year. So far, how has the program been prepared?
A delegation from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has just had a working session with provincial Labor Union about preparatory work for the “Gathering in Tet holiday” program 2017. Accordingly, the program is expected to take place at Ben Cat town-based My Phuoc Theater at 18:30 pm of January 19, 2017 (December 22, 2016 of lunar calendar). There will be also a series of “Gathering in Tet holiday” events for workers in the province from December 14 to February 5, 2017 (December 17 to January 9, 2017 of lunar calendar).
Provincial Trade Unions at all levels have always worried about year-end strikes that may occur. Thus, what is provincial Labor Union’s plan to prevent them?
Along with taking good care of employers on Tet, provincial Labor Union have instructed higher trade unions to keep a close eye on the situation of implementing region-based minimum wage adjustment, plans for Tet holiday, Tet salary and bonus payment at enterprises. Provincial Labor Union will be also proactive to coordinate with functional agencies to opportunely deal with queries by employees, minimizing collective labor disputes, strikes; consider and give support for needy employers at enterprises stopping operation or facing difficulties in production and business…
For trade union locals, they must coordinate with employers to make plans on Tet salary, bonus payment and many other related policies…and soon make public them; have a thorough grasp of the outcomes of enterprises’ production-business for proper proposals, solutions; carry out timely monitoring to ensure Tet salary and bonus payment for employees. If organizing shifts during Tet, enterprises must comply with the rules and have timely encouraging policies for employees.
