Joy in new houses

In 2024, provincial Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs (DoLISA) has collaborated with localities and enterprises to construct and renovate 45 houses for the local revolutionary contributors. As the Lunar New Year of 2025 approaches, many families are brimming with happiness, ready to celebrate the New Year in their newly built houses, filled with affectionateness.

Happiness

According to Hoang Kim Ha, a 1/4 veteran residing in My Phuoc ward’s quarter 1 in Ben Cat city, the Lunar New Year of 2025 will be her "warmest and happiest Tet after 12 years of welcoming spring in a rental house”. In her new house—over 50 square meters with a living room, bedroom and kitchen—built with support from local authorities and businesses, she couldn’t contain her joy. “For me, having a house like this is already more than enough happiness. I couldn’t ask for anything more”, Mrs. Ha shared emotionally.

Provincial DoLISA collaborates with local authorities and businesses to build a house for Pham Thi Xiem in Ben Cat city’s Phu An commune

On the year-end days, the family of Pham Thi Xiem, a revolutionary contributor residing in Phu An commune’s An Thuan hamlet in Ben Cat city is filled with joy. The local authorities have recently organized a ceremony to present her with a gratitude house.

Pham Van Hai, the eldest son who has cared for his mother for many years shared: “My mother is now over 90 and her health is frail. Since hearing the news that the local authorities would build her a house, she’s been overjoyed. During the construction process of the house, she would often set up a chair to watch workers and occasionally ask when the house would be finished. She asked and then smiled which was so touching. In recent days, as children and grandchildren have been buying plants and planting flowers in the yard to prepare for Tet, she’s been even happier. For our family, the care and attention from the local authorities are more than enough; we couldn’t ask for anything more”.

For Nguyen Thi Ut (62 years old, daughter of a martyr) from Phu Tho ward’s quarter 2 in Thu Dau Mot city, the July 27, 2024 celebration was an unforgettable time, brimming with joy as she moved into her long-dreamed-of new home. Mrs. Ut shared that eight years ago, her husband passed away after a severe illness, leaving the burden of the family solely on her shoulders. She thought she would never have a proper home in her twilight years as her children were still struggling. However, an indescribable happiness came to her family when the local authorities built her a house. “The local authorities have cared for us so well, from the house, gifts, to providing a health insurance card. Not long ago, I had a serious accident on my way to work. Without the health insurance card, I wouldn’t have been able to make it through. Since officially moving into the new house, I’ve felt a great sense of relief, no longer burdened by as many worries as before. This year, I’m even happier to celebrate Tet in this new home”, Mrs. Ut said with a smile.

Caring for housing and lives of revolutionary contributors

According to provincial DoLISA, Binh Duong currently recognizes and provides preferential treatment to over 64,000 revolutionary contributors, paying monthly allowances to more than 7,000 beneficiaries with a total expenditure of over VND 12.5 billion. In addition to fully implementing policies for revolutionary contributors as stipulated by regulations, provincial DoLISA has collaborated with local agencies, units and businesses to provide exemplary care for heroic Vietnamese mothers, wounded soldiers and martyrs; organize annual tours for revolutionary contributors, well performing the work of "paying debt of gratitude”. Especially, the construction of housing for revolutionary contributors in the province is always concerned and supported by all-level authorities, units and businesses, in order to create a stable life, helping revolutionary contributors’ families get conditions to rise up.

Each year, in addition to constructing and repairing numerous houses for revolutionary contributors, Binh Duong Lottery Co.Ltd. maintains, visits mothers of martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers and revolutionary contributors ‘families during Tet and great holidays

Over the past five years from 2019 to 2023, provincial DoLISA has collaborated with local authorities, businesses and organizations to construct and repair 314 gratitude houses for revolutionary contributors. The total funding for these efforts exceeded VND20.23billion, including 98 newly constructed houses costing VND 10.55 billion and 216 repaired houses with a total cost of over VND 9.68 billion. In 2024 alone, 45 gratitude houses were built or repaired for revolutionary contributors’ families, with a total expenditure of VND 2.72 billion. This included 8 newly constructed houses costing VND 900 million and 37 upgraded ones totaling VND 1.82 billion. These activities aimed at better supporting revolutionary contributors’ families, effectively implementing social welfare policies. In general, policy beneficiaries and revolutionary contributors’ families were excited and touched by the care and concern of all-level authorities and sectors in the province.

Nguyen Ngoc Hang, Deputy Director of provincial DoLISA shared that in addition to housing support for revolutionary contributors, agencies, organizations and businesses have also worked together to create jobs for their children, provide vocational training, offer health insurance cards, loans for economic development, visit and present gifts during Tet and great holidays to revolutionary contributors’ families across the province. As a result, 99.89% of revolutionary contributors’ families in the province now have a living standard equal to or higher than that of their residential areas. Additionally, all communes, wards and towns of the province have maintained the title of "exemplary units in caring for wounded soldiers, martyrs and revolutionary contributors”.
Since 2020, provincial People's Council has issued the Resolution No. 17/2020/NQ-HĐND, specifying support levels for constructing and repairing houses for revolutionary contributors in the province. The resolution has set the support rate at VND 100 million per new house, with additional VND 20 million for houses built on weak foundations. For repair, the support level has been VND 50 million per house, with additional VND 10 million for houses on weak foundations. The funding has come from the province's social security budget and contributions from organizations and individuals, ensuring the construction and repair of houses for revolutionary contributors ‘families across the province.
