In recent years, educational and training (ET) sector of Thu Dau Mot City has been a leader in excellent pupil movement.
In the last 3 years, TDM City had annually pupils achieving high prizes at the national Olympic Children Mathematics. In the school year of 2013-2014, there were 3 pupils obtained national gold medals. Due to focusing on key education’s quality, the sector has created a source of excellent pupils for secondary schools and following school levels.
TDM City ET Bureau has made deep investment. The bureau directed school clusters to hold contests, e.g. Violympic, excellent pupils of mathematics, in order to select outstanding pupils, schools, and teachers for the excellent pupils contest at city level.
Provincial Education – Training Department’s Head Duong The Phuong rewarded 2 pupils achieving gold medals of national Children Mathematics 2013-2014.
According to Mr. Duong Van Bon, TDM ET Bureau Deputy Head, schools held examinations themselves to select good pupils, who would be cultivated for higher contests. Pupils have been assessed objectively through not only examinations but also learning and cultivating process. Then examinations at cluster levels would be organized to select appropriate pupils.
Nguyen Du elementary school has achieved high prizes at the national Olympic Children Mathematics. Principal Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam said, since September, the school selected good pupils, cultivated them and then selected again qualified ones to create a team. The team would be trained weekly 2 or 3 times by exercising mathematics from low to high level. Examinations also carried out monthly to reassess.
Hiep Thanh elementary school’s principal Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy always taken care of learning of her pupils to discover and cultivate timely talented pupils. She discovered some pupils since 3rd grade, and now they achieved high prizes at national contests. According to Ms. Thuy, pupils should be trained from low to high level, and be tested frequently to make adjustments. Pupils should master basic knowledge before learning advanced knowledge. In addition, she usually gives exam questions of previous contests for practice test.
Chanh My elementary school has identified cultivating excellent pupils as the key education. Despite difficult conditions, the school formed themselves an excellent pupil team. In the school year of 2013-2014, the school had 4 pupils achieving Violympic prizes at city level, 1 pupil achieving the third prize of Luong The Vinh Methematics contest at city level, and 1 pupil obtaining gold medal of national Children Mathematics. Besides teaching efforts from teacher, parents of pupils have facilitated learning of pupils.
Head of TDM City ET Bureau said, improving educational quality plays a crucial role in school’s prestige. In addition to improving general educational quality, schools should also pay attention to the key aspect – discovering, cultivating excellent pupils. Lessons have been inferred to improve quality in the following years.
